Viscount Wenman
Viscount Wenman, of Tuam in the County of Galway, was a title in the Peerage of Ireland. It was created on 30 July 1628 for Sir Richard Wenman, Member of Parliament for Oxfordshire in 1620 and 1625, the son of Thomas Wenman (died 1577), a Buckinghamshire landowner. He was made Baron Wenman, of Kilmaynham in the County of Meath, at the same time, also in the Peerage of Ireland. He was succeeded by his son, the second Viscount. He represented Brackley and Oxfordshire in Parliament. On his death the titles passed to his younger brother, the third Viscount. After the death of his childless only son, he obtained a new patent in 1683, with remainder to his great-nephew, Sir Richard Wenman, 2nd Baronet, with the precedence of 1628. The latter succeeded as fourth Viscount according to the new patent in 1686. He had earlier represented Brackley in Parliament. Northampton (UK Parliament Constituency)
Northampton was a parliamentary constituency (centred on the town of Northampton), which existed until 1974. It returned two Members of Parliament (MPs) to the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom until its representation was reduced to one member for the 1918 general election. The constituency was abolished for the February 1974 general election, when it was replaced by the new constituencies of Northampton North and Northampton South. Thomas Wenman
The Honourable Thomas Francis Wenman FRS (18 November 1745 – 8 April 1796) was a British professor, natural historian, and antiquarian. Wenman was the second son of Philip Wenman, 6th Viscount Wenman and his wife Sophia, daughter and co-heiress of James Herbert of Tythorpe. He was born at Thame Park, near Thame, Oxfordshire in 1745. He was educated at University College, Oxford, matriculating on 22 October 1762. On 12 May 1764, he was admitted to the Inner Temple as a student. In 1765, while studying law, he was elected a fellow of All Souls College, Oxford, and in 1770, he was called to the bar. He received degrees in civil law from Oxford as well, becoming a BCL in 1771 and a DCL in 1780. Wenman unsuccessfully contested Wallingford in 1774, but was returned for Westbury, and sat in the House of Commons for the constituency until 1780. Robert Wenman
Robert Lloyd Wenman (19 June 1940 – 14 June 1995) was a Progressive Conservative party member of the House of Commons of Canada. He was a businessman, investment counsellor and teacher by career. Wenman was born in Maidstone, Saskatchewan and attended the University of Saskatchewan and various schools in the United States. In 1966, he became a member of British Columbia's provincial legislature for the Social Credit party, setting a record as youngest MLA at that time. He was first elected at the Fraser Valley West riding in the 1974 federal election. Richard Wenman (Nova Scotia Politician)
Richard Wenman (ca 1712 – September 28, 1781) was a merchant and political figure in Nova Scotia. His surname also appears as Winman. He represented Halifax Township in the Nova Scotia House of Assembly from 1765 to 1770. He was born in England, served in the British Navy, and came to Halifax with his wife and son in 1749. In 1751, he married the widow Ann Pyke, the mother of John George Pyke. Richard Wenman, 4th Viscount Wenman
Richard Wenman, 4th Viscount Wenman (1657 – 1 March 1690), known as Sir Richard Wenman, Bt, between 1680 and 1686, was an English landowner and politician. Wenman was the only surviving son of Sir Francis Wenman, 1st Baronet, by Mary, daughter of Thomas Wenman, brother of Richard Wenman, 1st Viscount Wenman. He was returned to parliament for Brackley in 1679, a seat he held until his death eleven years later. In 1680 he succeeded his father in the baronetcy. Six years later he succeeded his great-uncle Philip Wenman, 3rd Viscount Wenman, as fourth Viscount Wenman according to the new patent obtained by the third Viscount in 1683 (the fourth Viscount is in some sources referred to as the second Viscount Wenman). This was an Irish peerage and did not disqualify him from remaining a member of the House of Commons. Richard Wenman, 1st Viscount Wenman (1573–1640), was an English soldier and politician who sat in the House of Commons between 1621 and 1625. He was created Viscount Wenman in the Peerage of Ireland in 1628. Life Wenman was the eldest son of Thomas Wenman (died 1577) of Thame Park, Oxfordshire, and his wife Jane West, daughter of William West, 1st Baron De La Warr, who married at St Dunstan in the West, London on 9 June 1572. Ned Wenman
Edward Gower "Ned" Wenman (18 August 1803 – 28 December 1879) was an English first-class cricketer whose career spanned the 1825 to 1854 seasons. A specialist wicket-keeper, he was a prominent member of the great Kent team of the 1840s which also featured Nicholas Felix, William Hillyer, Alfred Mynn and Fuller Pilch. Wenman is generally remembered as one of the greatest wicketkeepers of the 19th century. He came from a cricketing family, other first-class players being his cousins George and John, his son William and his brother Charles. In his first-class career, Wenman made 146 appearances, totalling 3,204 runs with a highest score of 73 not out and taking 45 wickets bowling occasionally with a slow underarm style.
