Wendy And Lisa
Wendy & Lisa (briefly known as Girl Bros.) are a music duo consisting of Wendy Melvoin and Lisa Coleman. They began working with Prince in the early 1980s and were part of his band the Revolution, before branching out on their own and releasing their eponymous debut studio album in 1987. In recent years they have turned their attention to writing music for film and television and have won an Emmy Award. They have released five studio albums, with their most recent album being 2008's '' White Flags of Winter Chimneys''. History With the Revolution In 1980, Lisa Coleman replaced Gayle Chapman in Prince's touring band on keyboards and piano. Coleman was asked to contribute vocals to several tracks over his next few albums. In 1983, guitarist Dez Dickerson left the band over religious conflicts. Dez Dickerson
Desmond D'andrea Dickerson (born August 7, 1955) is an American guitarist and singer who was a member of Prince's band, the Revolution. Life and career Dickerson was born in 1955 as Desmond D'andrea Dickerson, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. A veteran of numerous Minneapolis rock bands, Dickerson answered Prince's call for a touring musician in the ''Twin Cities Reader'', a local entertainment paper, in 1979.Nilsen, Per (2003). The Orb
The Orb are an English electronic music group founded in 1988 by Alex Paterson and Jimmy Cauty. Known for their psychedelic sound, the Orb developed a cult following among clubbers "coming down" from drug-induced highs. Their influential 1991 debut album ''The Orb's Adventures Beyond the Ultraworld'' pioneered the UK's nascent ambient house movement, while its UK chart-topping follow-up ''U.F.Orb'' represented the genre's commercial peak. ''Eroica'' is the third album by Wendy & Lisa, released July 16, 1990 by Virgin Records. Album history Wendy Melvoin's twin sister Susannah and Cole Ynda, Lisa's sister, contributed background vocal work to the record (as well as touring extensively with their sisters at the time) with k. d. lang adding background vocals to "Mother of Pearl". Singles released from the album included "Strung Out" (UK No. 44), "Rainbow Lake" (UK No. 70) and "Don't Try to Tell Me" (UK No. 83). Although the original UK album contained 11 tracks like the US release, Virgin Records in Europe also issued a limited edition version with a bonus 3" CD titled ''Piano Improvisations'' with four tracks performed by Lisa Coleman. ''Fruit at the Bottom'' is the second studio album by American pop duo Wendy & Lisa, released in 1989 by Columbia Records. The album peaked at No. 119 on the US ''Billboard'' 200, No. 71 on the US R&B Albums chart and No. 45 on the UK Albums Chart. Album history Wendy Melvoin's twin sister Susannah and Cole Ynda, Lisa's sister, contributed background vocal work to the record as well as touring extensively with their sisters. Singles released from the album included "Are You My Baby" (UK No. 70) and "Lolly Lolly" (UK No. 64), the latter of which was remixed by Wendy and Lisa's former boss Prince. Dream Factory (album)
''Dream Factory'' is an unreleased double LP project by Prince and the Revolution. History Prince's band, the Revolution, were invited to the studio in 1986 to contribute to a majority of the material for the planned album, with the notable exceptions of "The Ballad of Dorothy Parker" and "Starfish & Coffee" (co-written by Susannah Melvoin). Some tracks included a few band members, most tracks none, some were full band recordings or included other musicians such as Sheila E. But in September 1986 at the end of the Parade Tour, Prince was too frustrated with the Revolution. The band was dissolved in October 1986, after which many of the album's tracks were incorporated into what was now a planned solo three LP project entitled ''Crystal Ball''. However, Prince's record distributor at the time, Warner Bros., balked at a three-LP release, so the project was reduced to a two-LP set and retitled ''Sign o' the Times''. Hit N Run - Parade Tour
The Parade Tour (also called the Under the Cherry Moon Tour) was a concert tour by American recording artist Prince in support of Prince and The Revolution's eighth studio album ''Parade'' and his 1986 film ''Under the Cherry Moon''. The Hit n Run Tour was not a full scale American tour, but a string of concerts that was dubbed "Hit n Run" by Prince's manager. Most of those shows were announced days or hours before the actual concert took place. The Parade Tour marked the first full tour of Europe by Prince. ''Parade'' is the eighth studio album by American recording artist Prince, and the third and final album where the Revolution is billed. It also was the soundtrack album to the 1986 film ''Under the Cherry Moon'', directed by and starring Prince. It was released on March 31, 1986 by Paisley Park Records and Warner Bros. Records.
