Welsh Cycling
Welsh Cycling ( cy, Beicio Cymru. Formerly the Welsh Cycling Union) is the governing body of cycling in Wales. It is part of British Cycling, the national governing body of cycling in Britain. Over 140 cycling clubs in Wales are affiliated with Welsh Cycling. The governing body aims to encourage more people to cycle through inspiring, integrity and excellence; it's three core values. Welsh Cycling administers all six cycling disciplines— BMX; cyclo-cross; mountain biking (downhill and cross-country); road racing; time trials; and track racing. The body overseas sports cycling within Wales, including the Welsh Championship series, development of Welsh riders, regional competitions and racing licences, and organises the Welsh Commonwealth Games cycling team. Cross-country (XC) cycling is a discipline of mountain biking. Cross-country cycling became an Olympic sport in 1996 and is the only form of mountain biking practiced at the Olympics. The Commonwealth Games, often referred to as the Friendly Games or simply the Comm Games, are a quadrennial international multi-sport event among athletes from the Commonwealth of Nations. Track Cycling
Track cycling is a bicycle racing sport usually held on specially built banked tracks or velodromes using purpose-designed track bicycles. History Track cycling has been around since at least 1870. When track cycling was in its infancy, it was held on velodromes similar to the ones used today. These velodromes consisted of two straights and slightly banked turns, though they varied more in length and material than the modern 250m track. An individual time trial (ITT) is a road bicycle race in which cyclists race alone against the clock (in French: ''contre la montre'' – literally "against the watch", in Italian: ''tappa a cronometro'' "stopwatch stage").
