Welsh Amateur Championship (snooker)
The Welsh Amateur Championship is an annual snooker competition played in Wales and is the highest ranking and most prestigious amateur event in Wales. The competition was first established back in 1928 which was won by J. Emrys Harries. The championship is currently held by Elfred Evans. Tom Jones is the most successful player in the tournaments history winning the championship 8 times over a 17-year period. Colin Roscoe
Colin Roscoe (born 30 June 1945 in Connah's Quay, Flintshire) is a Welsh former professional snooker player. Career Born in 1945, Roscoe won the Welsh Amateur Championship in 1981 and soon after turned professional. He reached his highest ranking of 39th for the 1984/1985 season, and progressed to the last 32 stage of ten ranking tournaments in the following eight years. Roscoe first made any notable progress at the 1982 International Open, where he beat John Dunning and Doug French but lost 0–5 to Steve Davis in the last 32. Two years later, he reached the last 16 at the 1984 Classic, leading Terry Griffiths 2–0 but losing 2–5. Roscoe's career appeared to be over in the mid-1980s, as he played in few tournaments and did not perform well in any. Jamie Clarke (snooker Player)
Jamie Clarke (born 5 October 1994) is a Welsh professional snooker player. Career Clarke drew attention in 2014 when he defeated former world number 8 Darren Morgan in 6–0 whitewash in the semi-finals of the Welsh Amateur Championship before going on to defeat Lee Walker to capture the highest ranking and most prestigious amateur event in Wales. In 2015 Clarke entered several events in an attempt to qualify for the World Snooker Tour and narrowly missed out by losing in the final of tournaments on 3 occasions. In April, Clarke lost 3–4 in a final-frame decider to Martin O'Donnell in the final round of the EBSA Qualifying Tour Play-off. Clarke would go on to enter Q School in May 2015, but would be unable to advance further than the third round. Gareth Allen
Gareth Allen (born 9 September 1988 in Mynydd Isa, near Buckley, Flintshire) is a Welsh former professional snooker player. Career Allen started playing snooker aged three, joining his local snooker club and playing on full sized table at twelve. In a lengthy amateur career, Allen made his debut for the Welsh international side aged eighteen, where he reached the last 16 of the 2010 Amateur World Snooker Championship and narrowly missed out on a professional tour card in 2013, where he lost in the final to Robin Hull in the EBSA European Snooker Championships. Anthony Davies
Anthony Davies (born 2 December 1969) is a former Welsh professional snooker player. Davies started playing snooker aged 12. He made his first century break made aged 15 and his first maximum break aged 17. After winning a number of titles in Wales, in 1991 Davies turned professional. His best performance was at the 1996 European Open, where he reached the quarter-finals. In 2002 he also reached the last 16 of the World Championship. Davies remained in the top 32 in the world rankings for three seasons, peaking at #26, until a disappointing 2003/2004 season in which he failed to win a match. After failing to regain his form, he was relegated from the main tour in 2005, and retired from snooker in 2006. Since 1998, he has been an official coach for World Snooker. Philip Williams (snooker Player)
Philip Williams (born 3 June 1967) is a Welsh former professional snooker player. He was a professional for most seasons between 1993–94 and 2003–04, but failed to establish himself, his highest ranking position being 104. His best performances both came in 2001, when he reached the last 64 of both the Benson & Hedges Championship and the British Open. As an amateur, he won the Welsh Championship in 2006. He then reached the quarter-final at the amateur 2006 IBSF World Snooker Championship in Amman, Jordan, where he was eliminated by Kurt Maflin 6–3. Andrew Pagett (born 25 April 1982) is a Welsh professional snooker player. Career Early career He played on Challenge Tour from 2003 to 2005, and first qualified for the Main Tour in 2008–09, but lost his place after just one season. He regained his place for the 2010–11 season by topping the Welsh rankings. He is best known for the role of Moody Richardson in the American drama streaming television miniseries '' Little Fires Everywhere'' and Prince Maxemil “Emil” Vanderklaut III in the Netflix sitcom ''Prince of Peoria''. Darren Morgan
Darren Morgan (born 3 May 1966) is a Welsh former professional snooker player who now competes as an amateur. Morgan won the World Amateur Championship in 1987 and played on the professional main tour from 1988 until 2006. He earned just over £1 million in prize money, reached a high ranking of eight, and was ranked within the top 16 for six years despite never winning a ranking event. He compiled 111 in his career.
