Welsh Affairs Committee
The Welsh Affairs Select Committee (or simply the 'Welsh Affairs Committee') is a select committee of the House of Commons in the Parliament of the United Kingdom. The remit of the committee is to examine the expenditure, administration and policy of the Wales Office, as well as relations with the Senedd. The members of the committee are usually Welsh MPs. In British politics, parliamentary select committees can be appointed from the House of Commons, like the Foreign Affairs Select Committee; from the House of Lords, like the Delegated Powers and Regulatory Reform Committee; or as a joint committee of Parliament drawn from both, such as the Joint Committee on Human Rights. Committees may exist as "sessional" committees – i.e. be near-permanent – or as "ad-hoc" committees with a specific deadline by which to complete their work, after which they cease to exist, such as the Lords Committee on Public Service and Demographic Change. Beth Winter
Bethan Winter (born 4 October 1974) is a Welsh Labour Party politician. She has been the Member of Parliament (MP) for Cynon Valley since the 2019 general election. She is a member of the Socialist Campaign Group parliamentary caucus. Early life and education Winter was born and raised in Cynon Valley. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Social Policy and a Master of Arts in Housing Studies, both from the University of Bristol. She later became a researcher and received a PhD from Swansea University in disadvantage among older people in rural communities. Career Winter has worked in RCT for Shelter Cymru and in Penywaun as a community worker, and has also managed a youth club and worked in a food bank. Jamie Wallis
Jamie Hamilton Wallis (born 2 June 1984) is a British Conservative Party politician who has been the member of Parliament (MP) for Bridgend in Wales since the 2019 general election. Wallis defeated incumbent Labour MP Madeleine Moon, who had represented the constituency since 2005. He has been described in some media reports as the first openly transgender MP in the House of Commons, following his statement in March 2022 that "I’m trans. Or to be more accurate, I want to be". He has been convicted of several driving offences and his business dealings have come under scrutiny. An independent or non-partisan politician is a politician not affiliated with any political party or bureaucratic association. There are numerous reasons why someone may stand for office as an independent. Some politicians have political views that do not align with the platforms of any political party, and therefore choose not to affiliate with them. Rob Roberts (politician)
Robert Joseph Roberts (born 15 October 1979) is a British Independent politician. He has been the Member of Parliament (MP) for Delyn in North Wales since the 2019 general election. He was elected as a member of the Conservative Party. In 2020, Roberts reportedly sent sexually suggestive text messages to a female staff member which resulted in his being referred to the British House of Commons' Complaints and Standards Committee. Roberts was also investigated by the Conservative Party; in April 2021, Roberts was "strongly rebuked" by the Conservative Party for his conduct. In May 2021, an independent panel found that Roberts had acted inappropriately after he sought to engage in a relationship with a male member of his staff; he subsequently lost the Conservative party whip in October of the same year. Aberconwy (UK Parliament Constituency)
Aberconwy is a constituency represented in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament since 2019 by Robin Millar, a Conservative. The seat was created by the Welsh Boundary Commission for the 2010 general election, and replaced the old north Wales seat of Conwy. The same boundaries have been used for the Aberconwy Senedd constituency since the 2007 Welsh Assembly election. Boundaries The constituency is a new creation of the Boundary Commission for Wales and was based on the existing Conwy seat. Robin John Millar (born 15 October 1968) is a British Conservative Party politician who has been the Member of Parliament (MP) for Aberconwy since the 2019 general election. Early life and education Robin Millar was born in Bangor in 1968, where his father was chairman of the Conwy Conservative Association. Millar went to Ysgol Friars School, then studied civil engineering at UMIST and later moved to Suffolk to support his wife’s work as an equine veterinary nurse. Ceredigion (also Cardiganshire) is a parliamentary constituency represented in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament. Created in 1536, the franchise expanded in the late 19th century and on the enfranchisement of women. Its boundaries remained virtually unchanged until 1983. From 1536 until 1885 the area had two seats (electing MPs): a county constituency (Cardiganshire) comprising the rural areas, the other the borough constituency known as the Cardigan District of Boroughs comprising a few separate towns; in 1885 the latter was abolished, its towns and electors incorporated into the former, reduced to one MP. Plaid Cymru ( ; ; officially Plaid Cymru – the Party of Wales, often referred to simply as Plaid) is a centre-left to left-wing, Welsh nationalist political party in Wales, committed to Welsh independence from the United Kingdom.
