Jiří Welsch () (born 27 January 1980) is a Czech former professional basketball player for BK Pardubice of the Czech Republic National Basketball League. He has also represented the senior Czech Republic national basketball team. Welsch has played in the National Basketball Association in the United States, having been drafted in 2002 by the Philadelphia 76ers. Professional career Early years Welsch began his professional career as a teenager with BK JIP Pardubice of the Czech Republic League, where he played until 1998. Roger Welsch
Roger Lee Welsch (November 6, 1936 – September 30, 2022) was an American news reporter who was a senior correspondent on the ''CBS News Sunday Morning'' program, and was featured in a segment called "Postcards from Nebraska." An author, humorist and folklorist, Welsch was born in Lincoln, Nebraska, the only son of Christian Welsch, who worked in a Goodyear tire factory and Bertha (Flach) Welsch, a homemaker. He lived outside of Dannebrog, Nebraska. Welsch earned a bachelor's degree in 1958 and a master's degree in 1960, both in German and both at the University of Nebraska. He also studied folklore at the University of Colorado and Indiana University. Welsch was the 2005 winner of the Henry Fonda Award from the State of Nebraska Travel and Tourism Division. Johann Maximilian von Welsch (1671 – 15 October 1745) was a German architect, construction director and fortress master builder. Life Maximilian von Welsch is regarded as a prominent representative of baroque fortress building in the Holy Roman Empire. Besides this he got reputation with the construction of several palaces. Von Welsch was born in Kronach, belonging to the Prince-Bishopric of Bamberg at that time. He studied construction during his early education journeys mainly to European capitals such as Vienna, Rome and Paris. There he studied the buildings of Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach, Francesco Borromini and François Mansart. Georg Hieronymus Welsch (Latinized as Georgius Hieronymus Velschius; 28 October 1624 – 11 November 1677) was a German physician and writer who examined texts in astronomy and medicine from the Ottoman Empire. Welsch was born in Augsburg where his father was an apothecary. He studied medicine at Tübingen, Strasburg and Padua before visiting Basel in 1645. He attempted to travel further but his parents forbade him. He attempted to return to Padua to obtain his physician degree but he was struck by epilepsy and was unable to speak thereafter. The then settled alone in Augsburg, surrounded by his books and read and wrote extensively. He knew Greek, Latin, Hebrew, and Arabic which he had studied in his home town. During his travels to Basel and Zurich where he studied the work of Conrad Gesner under Johann Heinrich Hottinger. Gottfried Welsch
Gottfried Welsch (November 12, 1618 – September 5, 1690) was a German physician born in Leipzig. In 1644 he became a professor of anatomy at the University of Leipzig, and afterwards a professor of physiology (1647), pathology (1662) and therapy (1668). He held the title of city physician () in Leipzig, and in 1665 became Rector (academia), rector at the University of Leipzig. Welsch was one of the founders of German forensic medicine, and remembered for introducing fundamental criteria for evaluation of fatal wounds and poisonings. Heinrich Welsch
Heinrich Welsch (born 13 October 1888 in Saarlouis – died 23 November 1976 in Saarbrücken) was a politician but not a member of a political party. He was Minister President of Saarland in 1955 and 1956. Life and career up to World War II From 1908 to 1911 he studied law at the Universities of Freiburg, Munich and Bonn. In 1911 he graduated from the 1st state exam and then was a trainee at the local courts and Merzig Saarlouis, the District Court and the Prosecutor's Office and the Saarbrücken Higher Regional Court of Cologne. In 1921 he passed the 2nd state examination and was then until 1934 Attorney in Saarbrücken. Then he was until 1935 the provincial government in Trier Speaker and head of the state police office. From 1935 to 1936 he acted as a representative of Germany at the Supreme Court vote in Saarland, which was to monitor the referendum on the membership of the Saarland. Samuel Weltsch
Samuel Weltsch (September 12, 1835 – August 5, 1901) was a Bohemian '' ḥazzan'' and composer. Biography Samuel Weltsch was born in Prague into a family of ''ḥazzanim''. He early entered the profession, and became cantor of the Maisel Synagogue at Prague while quite a young man. He received his musical education at the Prague Conservatory of Music. In 1865 he received a call from the Ahawath Chesed Congregation in New York, and remained its cantor until 1880, when he resigned the position in order to return to his native city. During his stay in New York he was active in improving the musical service of the American synagogue. Weltsch was one of the collaborators on the first three volumes of the ''Zimrat Yah'', a fourth volume of which was later added by Alois Kaiser of Baltimore, containing music for all the seasons of the year.
