Wellwood, Fife
Wellwood is a small village to the north of Dunfermline, Fife Fife (, ; gd, Fìobha, ; sco, Fife) is a council area, historic county, registration county and lieutenancy area of Scotland. It is situated between the Firth of Tay and the Firth of Forth, with inland boundaries with Perth and Kinross (i ..., Scotland. It was named after the Wellwoods who used to own coalmines in the area. It has a leisure centre and a golf course (Canmore). It is nearby the Town Loch and also is partially bordered by Queen Anne High School. It was formerly known as Hawkiesfauld. Wellwood is an old coal mining village. The coal pits in the village were active throughout the nineteenth century and into twentieth. Wellwood Cemetery
Wellwood Cemetery is a Jewish cemetery in West Babylon, New York. It was established as the annex to Beth David Cemetery in Elmont, New York. The cemetery comprises many sections, each under the auspices of a synagogue, landsmanschaft, or group such as the Brooklyn Jewish Postal Workers Union. Each of these is marked, most commonly by a stone arch or a pair of stone columns. Many of the landsmanshaft have dedicated Holocaust monuments to the victims of the Nazis in their ancestral town. Examples include Baranovichi, Belarus; Ioannina, Greece; Pilica, Poland; Sokołów Podlaski, Poland; and Burshtyn, Ukraine. Several well-known rabbis are buried here. Kehillas Belz of New York has a section within the Beth Moses section of Wellwood Cemetery. Caroline Wellwood
Caroline Wellwood (1870s – 1947) was a Canadian nurse, nursing educator, and Christian missionary in China. Early life Caroline Wellwood was born in Fordyce, Ontario and raised in Wingham, Ontario, the daughter of William Wellwood and Christiana Rodgers Wellwood. She attended the National Training School for Nurses and Deaconesses at Sibley Memorial Hospital in Washington, D.C., graduating in 1902. Career Wellwood was head nurse at a maternity hospital in Boston as a young woman. She was assigned to the West China Mission (WCM) of the Canadian Methodist Woman's Missionary Society (WMS) in 1906, and arrived at Chengdu in 1907. She worked at an orphanage while learning Mandarin, then worked at a hospital dispensary. She became secretary treasurer of the West China Mission in 1909, and hospital superintendent. James Wellwood
James Joseph Wellwood (15 October 1892 – 25 October 1984) was an Australian flying ace of the First World War credited with seven aerial victories. After the war, he went on to a long career as an agriculturalist. Early life James Joseph Wellwood was the son of Elizabeth Anne Payne and James Wellwood. He was born in Drouin, Australia on 15 October 1892, one of five brothers. Wellwood's mother died when he was ten. Military career Wellwood originally served in an Australian militia unit, the Royal Australian Garrison Artillery before he enlisted in the Siege Brigade of the Australian Imperial Force on 1 June 1915. On his enlistment papers, he stated he was a born British subject working as a motor mechanic. He later transferred to the Australian Flying Corps, and trained as a Royal Aircraft Factory SE.5 pilot. James Wellwood (physician)
James Wellwood (1652 – 2 April 1727) was an English physician. Biography He was born in Dunfermline, Fifeshire, Scotland, the son of Rev James Welwood of Fifeshire and his wife, Mary Dury, was born in 1652 and educated at St Andrews University. He went to Holland in 1679, and is said to have graduated M.D. at Leyden, but his name does not appear in Peacock's "Index." He returned to England with William III and, on 22 December 1690, then being physician to King William and Queen Mary, was elected a fellow of the College of Physicians of London. He was elected a censor of the college in 1722. A letter of his to the lady mayoress on the case of Mary Maillard, a girl lame from birth, was published in London in 1694. Kyle Wellwood
Kyle Wellwood (born May 16, 1983) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey centre who played the majority of his career in the National Hockey League (NHL). He was originally selected by the Toronto Maple Leafs 134th overall in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft, playing his first three seasons in the NHL with Toronto before joining the Vancouver Canucks in 2008. After not re-signing with the Canucks, Wellwood played in Russia for Atlant Moscow Oblast of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL). He left the team due to family concerns and was then signed by the St. Louis Blues. He never played a game with them, however, as he was claimed on re-entry waivers by the San Jose Sharks. After one season with the Sharks, he signed with the Winnipeg Jets as a free agent, where he played the final two years of his NHL career.
