Wellsville Rainmakers
The Wellsville Rainmakers were a minor league baseball team based in Wellsville, New York. From 1914 to 1916, the Rainmakers played as members of the Class D level Interstate League, winning the 1915 league championship. Wellsville hosted home minor league games at Island Park. History Wellsville began minor league play in 1890, when the "Wellsville" team played briefly as a member of the Western New York League, an Independent level minor league. The league began play on September 9, 1890. When the season ended on September 27, 1890, Wellsville finished in second place, The Canisteo team was in first place with a 6–0 record, followed by Wellsville (3–3), Hornell (2–4) and the Bath Bathers (1–5) in the final standings. Baseball Hall of Fame member John McGraw played the 1890 shortened season as a member of the Wellsville team. Aviator Alfred Lawson was a teammate of MCGraw on the Wellsville team. Frank Shaughnessy
Francis Joseph "Shag" Shaughnessy (April 8, 1883 – May 15, 1969) was an American athlete and sports executive. Shaughnessy played both baseball and football and was an executive in baseball, football and ice hockey. He was born in the United States and moved to Canada in the 1910s, where he was involved with football and ice hockey teams in Montreal and Ottawa. He was later president of the International League of baseball. His son Frank Shaughnessy Jr. also played football and ice hockey, and played ice hockey for the United States in the 1936 Winter Olympics. College Shaughnessy played football and baseball at the University of Notre Dame from 1901 to 1904, serving as football captain his senior year. Jim Curry
James L. Curry was a second baseman in Major League Baseball. He was born on March 10, 1886, in Camden, New Jersey. He was 5 foot 11 and 160 pounds. In 1909, Curry played one game for the Philadelphia Athletics. In 1911 he played with the New York Highlanders in four games, and in 1918 he played for the Detroit Tigers for five games.
