Austell is a city in Cobb and Douglas Counties in the U.S. state of Georgia. It is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. As of the 2020 census, the city had a population of 7,713. History The area that is now Austell was frequented by game hunters and trappers on their way to the area's salt licks. These early visitors claimed the area's waters had medicinal properties. It soon became a destination for therapeutic healing, leading to the founding of a town known as Salt Springs. As immigration increased and demand for land near the spring grew, G. O. Kennesaw State University (KSU) is a public research university located in the state of Georgia with two different campuses in the Atlanta metropolitan area, one in Kennesaw and the other in Marietta on a combined of land. The school was founded in 1963 by the Georgia Board of Regents using local bonds and a federal space-grant during a time of major Georgia economic expansion after World War II. Kennesaw is a suburban city northwest of Atlanta in Cobb County, Georgia, United States, located within the greater Atlanta metropolitan area. Known from its original settlement in the 1830s until 1887 as Big Shanty, it became Kennesaw under its 1887 charter. Wellstar Douglas Hospital (formerly WellStar Douglas Hospital), originally known as Douglas Hospital and Douglas General Hospital, is a medical facility in Douglasville, Georgia. It opened in 1948. The original Douglas Hospital opened with 15 patient beds. In 1974, construction was completed on the new Douglas General Hospital, increasing the number of beds to 98. Wellstar Kennestone Hospital (formerly WellStar Kennestone Regional Medical Center) is a major hospital located in Marietta, Georgia, serving most of northern and central Cobb County, Georgia. Kennestone Hospital opened in June 1950 as a 105-bed-facility. It was named after Kennesaw Mountain and Stone Mountain.
