The Welfare Committee ( is, Velferðarnefnd) is a standing committee of the Althing, Icelandic parliament. Jurisdiction According to la№ 55/1991, with later amendments all matters relating to the following subjects are referred to the Welfare Committee: * Health insurance * Social security * Social work, Social services * Children * Senior citizens * Disability * Public housing, Housing * Labour economics, Labour market * Health care Members, 140th parliament The main members have seats in the committees and attend the meetings. Standing Committee
A committee or commission is a body of one or more persons subordinate to a deliberative assembly. A committee is not itself considered to be a form of assembly. Usually, the assembly sends matters into a committee as a way to explore them more fully than would be possible if the assembly itself were considering them. Committees may have different functions and their types of work differ depending on the type of the organization and its needs. A member of a legislature may be delegated a committee assignment, which gives them the right to serve on a certain committee. Purpose A deliberative assembly may form a committee (or "commission") consisting of one or more persons to assist with the work of the assembly. For larger organizations, much work is done in committees. Ólína Kjerúlf Þorvarðardóttir (born 8 September 1958) was a member of the Althing, representing the Social Democratic Alliance for the Northwest Constituency from 2009 to 2016. Life and career Ólína has been an active scholar in social Sciences, a principal of the Junior College of Ísafjörður ( Menntaskólinn á Ísafirði) from 2001 to 2006; and lecturer at the University of Iceland (Folklore, Icelandic literature) from 1992 to 2000. The Independence Party ( is, Sjálfstæðisflokkurinn) is a Liberal conservatism, liberal-conservative List of political parties in Iceland, political party in Iceland.
