Don Welbourne
Donald Welbourne (born 12 March 1949) is an English former professional footballer who made more than 250 appearances in the Football League playing as a central defender for Scunthorpe United. He also played in the North American Soccer League (NASL) for the Boston Minutemen. Career Welbourne was born in Scunthorpe, Lincolnshire. He began his football career as an apprentice with Scunthorpe United, and made his debut as a 17-year-old in September 1966. After establishing himself in the first team a couple of years later, he spent seven seasons as a regular, and was part of the Fourth Division team that knocked First Division Sheffield Wednesday out of the 1969–70 FA Cup on Wednesday's own ground, before injury ended his professional career in November 1975. In 1969, he and Grimsby Town player Graham Rathbone were sent off for fighting, and each received an eight-week ban, "suspensions of unprecedented severity", according to ''The Times''. Duncan Welbourne
Duncan Welbourne (28 July 1940 – 14 January 2019) was an English professional football player, coach and manager. Early life Born in Scunthorpe, Lincolnshire, he began his career as an amateur at Scunthorpe United. He started his professional career at Grimsby, as a wing half. In November 1963 he transferred to Watford, for a fee of £1,300. At Watford he converted to a full back, when the club started playing in a 4–4–2 formation. Welbourne set what was then a Watford record of 457 competitive appearances, breaking the 35-year-old record previously held by Tommy Barnett. His 280 consecutive Football League games remains a record. After finishing third in the club's inaugural Player of the Season award in 1972–73, Welbourne left Watford on a free transfer at the end of the 1973–74 season. Edward Welbourne
Edward Welbourne (1894–1966) was a Master of Emmanuel College, Cambridge. Early life Welbourne's early education began at a country school he later described as 'incredibly incompetent' but with a teacher who was able to inspire a lifelong love of learning. He entered Emmanuel College in 1912, performed exceptionally well in history and participated on the rowing team. He served in France in World War I, where he was injured and received the Military Cross for having carried out 'a number of dangerous reconnaissance missions under heavy fire and leading a raid with great courage and skill'. After his return from the war, Welbourne's economic history dissertation won a trio of prestigious awards including the Thirlwall and Gladstone prizes. Thomas Welbourne (Welbourn) (born Hutton Buscel, North Riding of Yorkshire - executed at York, 1 August 1605) was an English Roman Catholic teacher. He is a Catholic martyr, beatified in 1929. Life All that is known about Welbourne comes from details collected by Richard Challoner, in early Catholic catalogues of martyrs: Thomas Welbourne was a school-master, a native of Kitenbusheli.e. Hutton Buscel. in Yorkshire; and John Fulthering was a layman of the same county, who being zealous Catholics, and industrious in exhorting some of their neighbours to embrace the Catholic faith, were upon that account arraigned and condemned to suffer as in cases of high treason (II, 12).
