Weinheim Longhorns
The Weinheim Longhorns are an American football team from Weinheim, Germany. The club's greatest success was promotion to the German Football League in 2006, where it spent four seasons. In this time the club reached the play-offs on three occasions. It is also notable as the team where Markus Kuhn played before going to College in the US and later being drafted in the seventh round by the New York Giants. Kuhn later became the first German born player to score an NFL touchdown. History The club was formed in 1990 as the football department of the TSG Weinheim. The ''Longhorns'' entered league football in 1991, playing in the tier four Verbandsliga Baden-Württemberg. The club's early years were of limited success, playing in the state leagues of Baden-Württemberg as a mid-table team. The American football Regionalliga is the third tier of American football in Germany, below the German Football League and the German Football League 2. The league is subdivided into six regional divisions, the Regionalligas (''English: Regional league'') Nord (''North''), Ost (''East''), West, Mitte (''Central''), Südwest (''Southwest'') and Süd (''South''). The Rhein-Neckar Bandits are an American football team from Mannheim, Germany. The club's greatest success came in 2011, when it earned promotion to the German Football League, followed by a second-place finish in the southern division of the GFL in 2012. The Wiesbaden Phantoms are an American football team from Wiesbaden, Germany. The team experienced its greatest success in 2010, earning promotion to the German Football League. History The club was formed in 1984, originally as a department of a local association football club and, from 1986, independent as the AFC Wiesbaden Phantoms e.V.. The Kiel Baltic Hurricanes are an American football team based in Kiel, Germany. The club has been, of recent, a strong force in the sport in Germany, playing in five consecutive German Bowls from 2008 to 2012, losing the first two, winning the third, and losing the fourth and fifth.
