Weiner is a surname or, in fact, the spelling of two different surnames originating in German and the closely related Yiddish language. In German, the name is pronounced , of which the rare English pronunciation is a close approximation. In Yiddish, the name is pronounced almost as in southern German (with a flapped or trilled final r). Bernard Weiner (born 1935) is an American social psychologist known for developing a form of attribution theory which seeks to explain the emotional and motivational entailments of academic success and failure. His contributions include linking attribution theory, the psychology of motivation, and emotion. Life and career Weiner received his undergraduate degree in Liberal Arts from the University of Chicago in 1955 and an MBA, majoring in Industrial Relations, from the same university in 1957. Following two years of service in the U.S. Army, Weiner enrolled in a PhD program in personality at the University of Michigan, where he was mentored by John Atkinson, one of the leading personality and motivational psychologists of that era. Gerald "Gerry" Weiner, (born June 26, 1933) is a Canadian politician. A pharmacist educated at McGill University and the Université de Montréal, Weiner entered local politics and eventually became mayor of Dollard-des-Ormeaux, Quebec in 1982. He was a Progressive Conservative candidate in the 1984 election, winning a seat in the House of Commons of Canada as Member of Parliament for Dollard, Quebec in the Tory landslide that brought Brian Mulroney to power. Ernst Josef Albert Weiner (13 December 1913 – 17 December 1945) was a German ''SS-Hauptsturmführer'' during World War II. He was most noted for his role in Operation Blumenpflücken during the occupation of Norway by Nazi Germany. Ehud Manor (Hebrew: אהוד מנור; born Ehud Weiner; July 13, 1941 – April 12, 2005) was an Israeli lyricist, translator, poet and radio and TV personality.
