William Weigand
William Keith Weigand (born May 23, 1937) is an American prelate of the Roman Catholic Church. He served as bishop of the Diocese of Sacramento in California from 1993 to 2008. Weigand previously served as the bishop of the Diocese of Salt Lake City in Utah and as a priest in the Diocese of Boise in Idaho. Biography Early life Weigand was born on May 23, 1937, in Bend, Oregon, one of four sons of Harold and Alice Weigand. When Weigand was age 12, the family moved to St. Maries, Idaho. He attended St. Maries Academy in Cottonwood, Idaho, a school run by the Benedictine Sisters. In 1951, Weigand entered Mt. Angel Minor Seminary in Saint Benedict, Oregon, for secondary school and two years of college. In 1959, Weigand graduated from St. Edward Seminary in Kenmore, Washington, with a Bachelor of Arts in philosophy. Weigand of Redwitz (1476 in Tüschnitz, now part of Küps – 20 May 1556 in Kronach) was Prince-Bishop of Bamberg from 1522 until his death. Background Weigand of Redwitz was a member of the Franconian Redwitz family. The Redwitzes were Imperial Knights; the family was named after Redwitz an der Rodach, a village in Lichtenfels district in Upper Franconia. Weigand was a son of Henry of Redwitz at Theisenort and Tüschnitz and his wife, Agatha of Bibra. His relative Catherine II of Redwitz (d. 1560) was Abbess of Obermünster Abbey in Regensburg from 1533 to 1536. Life Weigand of Redwitz became a canon in Bamberg in 1490. He made a pilgrimage to Jerusalem. In 1520, he was the senior pastor of Kronach. Among his congregation was the reformer Johannes Grau, who had to flee to Wittenberg after he married the daughter of a citizen of Kronach. Bill Weigand
William John Weigand (October 14, 1928 – June 27, 2021) was a Canadian politician, who served as mayor of Whitehorse, Yukon from 1991 to 1994. Weigand was originally from Edmonton, Alberta and came to Whitehorse in 1946, finding work as a civilian firefighter with the Canadian Army. He later owned and managed the Murdoch's Gem Shop franchise in Whitehorse along with Mike Scott, and worked as a real estate agent after earning a real estate certification at the University of British Columbia. He also served as chair of the Yukon Liquor Board and Yukon Utilities Board, as well as the Whitehorse Downtown Business Association and Kiwanis Club. On November 14, 1991, Weigand was elected to a three-year term as the Mayor of Whitehorse, defeating rival candidates, councilmen Gerry Thick and Art Deer. Gustav Weigand
Gustav Weigand (1 February 1860 – 8 July 1930), was a German linguist and specialist in Balkan languages, especially Romanian and Aromanian. He is known for his seminal contributions to the dialectology of the Romance languages of the Balkans and to the study of the relationships between the languages of the Balkan sprachbund. He has also provided substantial contribution to Aromanian studies. Weigand was born in Duisburg, in the Prussian Rhine Province. He studied Romance languages in Leipzig and wrote a doctoral thesis about the language of the Aromanians in Livadi in the region of Mount Olympus in 1888, followed by a habilitation thesis on the Megleno-Romanian language in 1892. In 1893 he founded the Romanian Institute at the University of Leipzig, the first such institution outside Romania.
