Weerwater
Weerwater is a small artificial lake in Almere Stad, the central district of Almere in the province Flevoland, Netherlands. The water and shores are used for recreation. On and around Weerwater a cable ski track, a watersportscenter, watchtower, marina, campsite and four beaches: * Atlantisstrand (South shore) * Fantasiestrand (southwestern shore) * Lumièrestrand (eastern shore) * Stedenwijkstrand (west shore) The lake started off as a borrow pit, caused by excavations for Almere Haven and is situated north of Rijksweg 6. Because these excavations caused a new body of water to form, within a polder, this name "''Weerwater''" ("''water again''") was adopted. Weerwater (novel)
Weerwater is a dystopian novel written by Renate Dorrestein. She was invited by the municipality of Almere to become writer-in-residence and write about the city. This was part of the effort to strengthen the cultural image of Almere. Writer's block Renate suffered from a writer's block in the era she was invited to become writer-in-residence but accepted the challenge nonetheless and used her protagonist as a storyteller of an imagined disaster threatening Almere. Structure of the story The writer cast herself as part of the book, writing about being invited by the municipality to write about the city. Further on, her task gets renamed as town clerk, which was more fitting given the medieval circumstances Almere fell into. In Maastricht she bid farewell to her loved ones, since she'd retreat to a place where nobody wanted to be found dead. Floriade 2022
Floriade Expo Amsterdam - Almere 2022 was a Dutch garden festival, horticultural exposition held in Almere, Netherlands. It is the seventh Floriade (Netherlands), Floriade, held from 14 April to 9 October 2022. On 15 November 2017, Floriade Expo 2022 was officially recognized as a horticultural exhibition by the Bureau International des Expositions. The theme of the Expo is "Growing Green Cities", which focuses on the need to combine nature and cities. Construction of the site in Weerwater, Almere started in February 2020 by Amvest and Dura Vermeer. The 2022 bid for Floriade was awarded in 2012, a few weeks before the closing of the event in Venlo. Renate Dorrestein
Renate Maria Dorrestein (25 January 1954 – 4 May 2018) was a Dutch writer, journalist and feminist. She started working as a junior journalist for the Dutch magazines ''Libelle'' and ''Panorama''. During the period 1977 - 1982 she published in ''Het Parool'', ''Viva'', ''Onkruid'' and ''Opzij''. Dorrestein published her first novel (''Buitenstaanders'') in 1983. Her sister's suicide had a great influence on her books.Algemeen Dagblad, 23 February 2013, "Paspoort Renate Dorrestein - De winst van iedere crisis is dat alle flauwekul van je afvalt" (in Dutch: author Inge van den Blink) Dorrestein won the ''Annie Romein'' prize in 1993 for her complete body of work. The Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency published in 2010 a map of surface water bodies in the Netherlands. It distinguishes over 20 different types. Almere Haven
Almere Haven is the oldest borough of Almere (although the first houses of Almere were built in the neighborhood now known as Oostvaardersdiep in Almere Buiten). Although Almere Haven does not have its own railway station, it is well-connected to Amsterdam and the rest of Almere by a good bus rapid transit system. Almere Haven has a small harbour, as well as a marina and is surrounded by large forests of poplars containing buzzards, foxes, small deer, and owls. The closest forests are Beginbos and Waterlandsebos. Almere Haven features a mall that, for the most part, closely resembles the downtown area of a small town. Along the moat called Kerkgracht (inside the mall), it also features canal houses, which resemble old canal houses found in Downtown Amsterdam. A polder () is a low-lying tract of land that forms an artificial hydrological entity, enclosed by embankments known as dikes. The three types of polder are: # Land reclaimed from a body of water, such as a lake or the seabed # Flood plains separated from the sea or river by a dike # Marshes separated from the surrounding water by a dike and subsequently drained; these are also known as ''koogs'', especially in Germany The ground level in drained marshes subsides over time. A6 Motorway (Netherlands)
The A6 motorway is a motorway in the Netherlands. It is just over 100 kilometers in length and it connects the A1 motorway at interchange Muiderberg with the A7 motorway at interchange Joure. Overview Just after its start at interchange Muiderberg and the first exit, the A6 motorway crosses the bridge Hollandsebrug. Next, it passes the city of Almere, which has a total of six exits and an interchange ( interchange Almere to the A27 motorway). Almere Stad is a district of the city Almere in the Dutch province Flevoland. The first houses in Almere Stad were finished in 1980. Nowadays there are several residential areas, offices, industrial areas, parks, and a lake. The city hall as well as a regional hospital are located in Almere Stad.
