Rohana Weerasinghe
DR. Rohana Weerasinghe (born February 18, 1949), is a Sri Lankan musician, composer and singer. Early life Weerasinghe was born on 18 February 1949 in Algiriya, Matara in southern Sri Lanka. He was the youngest child to his parents Henry Weerasinghe and Sepalin Weerasinghe. In 1954, Weerasinghe started schooling from Good Shepard Family Convent in Nuwara Eliya, and later moved to Vidyachakra Buddhist School Ruwan Eliya, Welimada Maha Vidyalaya, Pannipitya Dharmapala Vidyalaya and Gamini Maha Vidyalaya Nuwara Eliya. In 1977, Weerasinghe married to Leela Beatrice De Silva, a dancing teacher in profession. They had two sons, Kalindu Gajaba and Chirath Kanishka. His cousin daughter Priyani Jayasinghe was also a popular actress in Sri Lanka, who sang the popular hits ''Kandula Niwannam'' and ''Sundara Hadakata''. Jagath Weerasinghe ( si, ජගත් වීරසිංහ; born 1954) is a Sri Lankan contemporary artist and archeologist. Weerasinghe has been a significant driving force in the development of Sri Lankan art since the early 1990s. He is Director of the Postgraduate Institute of Archaeology at the University of Kelaniya. He obtained a Bachelor of Fine Arts with Honours in Painting at the Institute of Aesthetic Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka in 1981. In 1985 he received a Conservation of Wall Paintings, International Centre for the Study of the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property (ICCROM) in Rome, which was followed in 1988 by a Conservation of Rock Art from the Getty Conservation Institute in Los Angeles. Dhansiri Weerasinghe (1936 – 7 July 2020) was a cricketer who played 12 matches of first-class cricket for Ceylon between 1958 and 1969. Weerasinghe attended Ananda College in Colombo. On his first-class debut in 1957-58 he scored 57 against Mysore. He made his highest score of 92 when he captained Ceylon to a draw in the Gopalan Trophy match in 1968–69. He toured India with the Ceylon team in 1964-65, playing in one of the three matches against India, but with little success. Colombage Don Udesh Sanjeewa Weerasinghe (born 1 March 1968), or Sanjeewa Weerasinghe, is a Sri Lankan Australian former cricketer who played in one Test in 1985. He was born at Colombo in 1968. He was picked up in Sri Lanka Test squad as a schoolboy cricketer and made his Test debut against India at the P. Sara Oval in September 1985 which also historically marked Sri Lanka's first ever test win. It was his only international appearance. Sanjeewa was educated at Isipathana College. Oliver Weerasinghe, OBE, FRIBA (29 September 1907 – 20 January 1980) was a Sri Lankan architect and diplomat. He was Sri Lanka's first City Planner and for this reason, he is referred to as the "Father of Sri Lanka's Town Planning". He is a former Ambassador to the United States. Weerasinghe was educated at the Royal College Colombo and went on to study architecture at the University of Liverpool under Sir Patrick Abercrombie. Bertram Weerasinghe
Bertram Edmund Weerasinghe, OBE (1904–1971) was a Ceylonese engineer and firefighter. He was the first Ceylonese Chief Fire Officer of Colombo. After studying engineering at the Staffordshire University, Weerasinghe returned to Ceylon and took on an engineering post. Unhappy with the work he applied for and was selected in 1932 to become the first Ceylonese Chief Fire Officer of Colombo Municipal Council. In October 1932, soon after the selection he was sent to Britain for training with the Sheffield Fire Brigade at the Central Fire Station in South Yorkshire under Superintendent Tom Breaks. On returning to Ceylon in 1933 he was appointed as Chief Fire Officer and served until 1946.
