Weekend (American Band)
Weekend is an American lo-fi or shoegaze trio from San Francisco, California. The band formed in 2009 and released two EPs, with the full-length debut album ''Sports'' coming on Slumberland Records in 2010. The album received an 8.2 rating from Pitchfork Media. It also received 4/5 stars on Tinymixtapes and was also reviewed by National Public Radio, the '' Portland Mercury'', '' Boston Phoenix'', '' NME'', Drowned in Sound, Brooklyn Vegan, The Onion's AV Club, and PopMatters. ''Sports'' was also mentioned in Sports Illustrated alongside the more commercially successful album with the same name by Huey Lewis and the News. Mexican Summer
Mexican Summer is an independent record label founded in 2009 by Keith Abrahamsson and Andres Santo Domingo. Based in Brooklyn, New York, the label has released recordings from artists including Best Coast, Kurt Vile, Ariel Pink, Allah-Las, Weyes Blood, Connan Mockasin, Jessica Pratt, and Cate Le Bon. The label is named after the song "Mexican Summer" by Marissa Nadler. In 2013, '' T: The New York Times Style Magazine'' described the label as "a bastion for experimental pop, not to mention a model for successful music publishing in the 21st century." ''Red'' is the second EP by the band Weekend. The EP was released on September 20, 2011, from Slumberland Records. Release Slumberland Records released ''Red EP'' in September 2011 with catalog number SLR 157 on compact disc, 12" vinyl, and to digital retailers. The first pressings were colored red. Limited edition pressings came on clear vinyl with gold splatter. Reception Metacritic gave ''Red'' a "generally favorable" score of 74 out of 100 based on five professional reviews.
