Wedge Island is an island in the Australian state of South Australia located within the island group known as the Gambier Islands near the entrance to Spencer Gulf. It is the largest of the Gambier Islands, covers an area of about and is partly privately owned. Description The island is a privately owned island. There is a lighthouse at the south-eastern end, and highest point, of the island. There is an airstrip on the island as well as a jetty. The island has one permanent resident as of 2021. There is a farmhouse for the use of the owners of the island. There are two private holiday houses and two Holiday Rentals. It is a base for local and offshore recreational fishing. __NOTOC__ Wedge Island is a locality in South Australia located on Wedge Island at the mouth of Spencer Gulf. It is located about west of the Adelaide city centre. Its boundaries were created in 2014 for the purpose of providing property addressing for the island's residents. The locality was given the island's name in respect to the long established use. Land use within the locality is divided between agriculture and tourism with the former dating back to the mid-19 century and the latter commencing in the 1980s. Wedge Island is located within the federal Division of Grey, the state electoral district of Flinders and the unincorporated area of South Australia. The Wedge Island, part of the Tasman Island Group, is an island with an area of lying close to the south-eastern coast of Tasmania, Australia. The island is located in Storm Bay, situated off the Tasman Peninsula. The island is formed of Jurassic dolerite. Fauna Recorded breeding seabird species are little penguin and short-tailed shearwater. The island was previously used for sheep grazing, and was regularly burnt. The sheep were removed in 1986. There were also large numbers of European rabbits, now exterminated. Wedge Island is a 400-metre (1,300 ft) long wedge shaped island north of Lancelin and south of Cervantes on the Western Australian coast. The island is located just south of “the point” and approximately 15km south-east of an informal settlement known as Grey village with which it often shares a name. Both are within the Shire of Dandaragan. Geography The island occupies an area and is situated from the mainland. The island has a maximum elevation of . It lies within the Turquoise Coast islands nature reserve group, a chain of 40 islands spread over a distance of from north to south. Wedge can also be accessed in a 4WD vehicle, via the beach if the tide is out. The beach is very soft during summer and many vehicles become bogged or are swept into the water.
