Webberville, Texas
Webberville is a village in Travis County, Texas (USA). Its population was 392, according to a 2010 census estimate. Comprising settlements dating back to 1827, Webber's Prairie was formally established by retired physician John Ferdinand Webber in 1839. Webber's Prairie was renamed Webberville in 1853, and was incorporated as a Village in February 2003. In December 2011, the new Webberville Solar Farm began generating solar energy with Gemini Solar Development Company for Austin Energy. In 2009, the two companies signed a 25-year contract. Silvia And John Webber
Silvia Hector Webber (1807 – ca. 1892) and John Fernando Webber (ca. 1786–1795 – 1882) were a mixed-race couple who were among the initial settlers in Austin's Colony in Travis County, Texas. John, previously a private and a medic during the War of 1812, was the first non-native resident and the founder of Webber's Prairie, where he had established a fort. The town was later named Webberville, Texas. The Webbers secured the freedom of Silvia and their children ultimately by giving up much of their Webberville property. The family was subject to cruel racial prejudice and their children were unable to attend school with white children. The Webbers hired a live-in private tutor. The Webberville Solar Farm, is a 35 MWp (30 MWAC) photovoltaic array in located in Webberville, Texas, only about 6 miles east of the Tesla Gigafactory 5. It has 127,728 Trina Solar solar panels mounted on single-axis trackers, covers an area of , and was built at a cost of $250 million. It is expected to generate 61 GWh in the first year of operation, and 1.4 billion kWh over its 25 year life. Operation began on December 20, 2011, with a ribbon cutting by Austin mayor Lee Leffingwell on January 6, 2012. The project was constructed by RES Americas, who will operate the plant for five years.
