Paul Weatherwax
Paul John Weatherwax (July 8, 1900 – September 13, 1960"California Death Index, 1940-1997," database, FamilySearch (26 November 2014), Paul J Weatherwax, 13 Sep 1960; Department of Public Health Services, Sacramento.) was an American film editor, and two-time winner of the Academy Award for Best Film Editing. Biography Weatherwax was born in Sturgis, Michigan, began his editing career in silent films in 1928, and over his career edited about 85 films. His final credit, 1961's ''A Raisin in the Sun'', was selected for preservation in the United States of America National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant" in 2005. Paul Weatherwax (botanist)
Paul Weatherwax (1888–1976) was an American botanist, professor of botany, and botanical illustrator. Biography He grew up on a farm and graduated from high school in Worthington in 1907. He taught school from 1907 to 1909 in Worthington. He took college courses at Wabash College in the spring of 1909 and at DePauw University in the summer session of 1910. From 1910 to 1911 he taught high school, first at Owensburg and then at Freedom. In the spring of 1911 he enrolled at Indiana University but he then taught high school for a year at Greencastle. He graduated from Indiana University with bachelor's degree in 1914, master's degree in 1915, and PhD in 1918. At Indiana University he was an assistant in botany from 1913 to 1915 and an instructor in botany from 1915 to 1918. From 1919 to 1921 he was an associate professor at the University of Georgia. Seema Aissen Weatherwax
Seema Aissen Weatherwax (August 25, 1905 – June 25, 2006) was a Jewish-American photographer born in the Russian Empire. Born in Chernihiv, Russian Empire to Jewish parents, Avram and Reva Aissen, Seema was the middle child of three daughters. The family emigrated to England in 1913, then to Boston in 1922, where young Seema found her first job working in a photofinishing lab. She pursued this craft in Boston, New Jersey, New Mexico, California and Tahiti, but she was 95 when she first exhibited her own photographs to the public. In Los Angeles in the 1930s she joined the Film and Photo League, began her lifelong work for racial justice, and formed enduring friendships with artists and political activists including Edward Weston, Imogen Cunningham and Woody Guthrie. Frank Weatherwax
Frank Thrall Weatherwax (June 23, 1902 – December 17, 1991) was an American actor and animal trainer. He is best remembered with his brother Rudd Weatherwax for their famous collie, Pal, the dog who became famous as Lassie in the 1943 Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer film ''Lassie Come Home''. He also trained the dog, Lightning, for the 1935 movie ''A Dog of Flanders''. Rudd Weatherwax
Ruddell Bird "Rudd" Weatherwax (September 23, 1907 – February 25, 1985) was an American actor, animal trainer, and breeder. He and his brother Frank are best remembered for training dogs for motion pictures and television. Their collie, Pal, became the original Lassie, handled by Rudd for the 1943 Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer film ''Lassie Come Home''. He also handled the dogs for the ''Lassie'' television series which ran from 1954 to 1974, and trained Spike for the 1957 feature film ''Old Yeller''. Kenneth Patrick Weatherwax (September 29, 1955 – December 7, 2014) was an American child actor best known for having played Pugsley Addams on ''The Addams Family''. Biography Weatherwax was born in Los Angeles, California, into a show-business family. His aunt was actress and dancer Ruby Keeler, while his half-brother, Joey D. Vieira, played "Porky" on the first three seasons of '' Lassie'' under the stage name of Donald Keeler, beginning in 1954. Esmerelda "Esme" Weatherwax (also Granny Weatherwax or Mistress Weatherwax) is a fictional character from Terry Pratchett's ''Discworld'' series. She is a witch and member of the Lancre coven. Weatherwax Glacier
New Harbour is a bay about wide between Cape Bernacchi and Butter Point along the coast of Victoria Land, due west of Ross Island. It was discovered by the British National Antarctic Expedition (1901–04) and so named because this new harbor was found while the ''Discovery'' was seeking the farthest possible southern anchorage along the coast of Victoria Land. The Ferrar Glacier flows into the bay, which overlooked by Mount Barnes, which sits at the eastern end of the Kukri Hills range. Wales Stream carries water from Wales Glacier into Explorers Cove, which indents the harbor at its northwest head. Explorers Cove was named in 1976 by the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names (US-ACAN) in recognition of the large number of explorers that have worked in the vicinity of this cove.
