We Belong Together (1958)
"We Belong Together" is a 1958 American rhythm and blues hit written and recorded by Robert & Johnny, with a co-writing credit to Hy Weiss. It reached #12 on the R&B charts and #32 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100 chart. Cover versions The song was later recorded by several others. The Fleetwoods released a version on their 1959 album, ''Mr. Blue.'' A rendition by Ritchie Valens was released in 1959 on the Del-Fi record label and can be found on several of his albums. It is also featured in a scene from the 1987 hit film about Valens, '' La Bamba'' in which the song was sung by Los Lobos. The Belmonts released a remake on the Laurie label, Laurie 3080, in 1961, after they had split with Dion. It was not a hit, but was later reissued on a collector's label because of its musical value. Robert & Johnny were an American doo-wop duo from The Bronx, composed of Robert Carr and Johnny Mitchell. Biography The duo released about a dozen singles for Old Town Records in the late 1950s and early 1960s. Two of them charted: "We Belong Together", which hit number 12 on the U.S. R&B Singles chart and number 32 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100 in 1958, and "I Believe In You", which hit number 93 on the Hot 100 later that year. Dion Francis DiMucci (born July 18, 1939), better known simply as Dion, is an American singer, songwriter and guitarist. His music has incorporated elements of doo-wop, pop, rock, R&B, folk and blues. Initially as the lead singer of Dion and the Belmonts, and then during his solo career, Dion was one of the most popular American rock and roll performers of the pre-British Invasion era. Jimmy Tennant, better known as Jimmy Velvet, was an early American soft rock, soft rock and roll singing, vocalist, during the 1960s. His most popular singles were "We Belong Together (Robert & Johnny song), We Belong Together" and "It's Almost Tomorrow". History Tennant was born in Jacksonville, Florida, where he became involved in music entertainment. It was there he met Elvis Presley and they became lifelong close friends. After Elvis' death, Tennant operated an Elvis memorabilia museum in Memphis for about twenty years. In the early 1960s, he worked as the manager for a singer from Texas named James Mullins, who used the name Jimmy Velvit. The two soon split due to disagreements. KLIF (AM)
KLIF () is a commercial AM radio radio station licensed to Dallas, Texas. The station is owned by Cumulus Media and broadcasts a talk radio format to the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. The studios are in the Victory Park district in Dallas, just north of downtown. KLIF broadcasts at by day, but decreases its power to at night to protect other stations on 570 AM. Its transmitter is shared with co-owned KTCK, on Ledbetter Road in Irving. It uses a directional antenna at all times, with a two-tower array. Programming is also heard on the HD Radio digital subchannel of co-owned 96.3 KSCS-HD2. KLIF is one of the two talk stations owned by Cumulus in the Dallas Metroplex. Sister station WBAP has mostly local hosts while much of KLIF's schedule is made up of nationally syndicated talk shows.
