Wayne Thornborrow
Wayne Thornborrow (born 27 December 1972) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with St Kilda in the Australian Football League (AFL). Thornborrow was initially drafted by St Kilda in the 1989 National Draft, but the Glenelg recruit remained in South Australia and didn't play in the AFL until 1994. Glenelg Football Club is an Australian rules football team, which plays in the South Australian National Football League. The club is known as the "Tigers" (or the "Bays"), and their home ground is ACH Group Stadium (formerly Glenelg Oval), located in the southern coastal suburb of Glenelg East, South Australia. Club history The inaugural meeting of the Glenelg Football Club was held at the Glenelg Town Hall on Wednesday 10 March 1920, to form a club for players west of South Road to play in the B Grade. It was decided that the club colors would be red, yellow and black with white knickers. The Club participated in the B Grade (Reserves) Competition in 1920 and entered the South Australian League in 1921. 1989 VFL Draft
The 1989 VFL draft was the fourth annual national draft held by the Victorian Football League (since changed its name to Australian Football League) as the main method for the 14 teams to recruit players for the 1990 season. It consisted of a trading period, pre-draft selections, the main national draft and the 1990 pre-season draft and a non-compulsory 1990 mid-year draft. The minimum age for most draftees was 16 and clubs other than the West Coast Eagles were only allowed to choose one player each from Western Australia. For the non-Queensland and NSW clubs, players from those states had to be 19 to be selected, by which time the Brisbane Bears or Sydney Swans would have had three chances to recruit them. Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. Richmond Football Club
The Richmond Football Club, nicknamed the Tigers, is an Australian rules football team playing in the Australian Football League (AFL). Between its inception in the Melbourne suburb of Richmond in 1885 and 1907, the club competed in the Victorian Football Association (VFA), winning two premierships. Richmond joined the Victorian Football League (now known as the AFL) in 1908 and has since won 13 premierships, most recently in 2020. Richmond's headquarters and training facilities are located at its original home ground, the Punt Road Oval, which sits adjacent to the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), the club's playing home since 1965. Jamie Elliott (footballer Born 1973)
Jamie Elliott (born 6 February 1973) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Fitzroy, Richmond and St Kilda in the Australian Football League (AFL) during the 1990s. Elliott was picked up by Fitzroy in the 1989 VFL draft and broke into the team for the first time in 1991. He was a regular fixture in the team that year but managed only 10 games in 1992. From 14 appearances in 1993 he averaged 16 disposals a game and at the end of the year requested to be released. He joined Richmond in 1994, having been selected with the third pick of the pre-season draft but would struggle with injuries in his two seasons. After the 1995 season, Elliott was traded to St Kilda in a swap for Wayne Thornborrow. He played in his club's Ansett Cup winning side but a shoulder injury suffered in the grand final meant he missed the first half of the regular season.
