Wayne Kierans is a Gaelic football manager. Kierans was a selector under Pete McGrath. As an O'Connell's clubman, he made it known he wanted the Louth manager job in 2018, and he was the first one interviewed for it. He coached Louth to a first Leinster Minor Football Championship The Leinster Minor Football Championship is the premier under-17 "knockout" competition in gaelic football played in the province of Leinster. 2017 was the final year of the minor under 18 football championship as it were replaced by an under 17 ... final in 46 years in 2017, in the second of his two seasons in charge before taking over the under-20 team in 2018. His time with Louth ended in 2020. Kierans brought Naomh Fionnbarra, a Junior Championship in 2015. Gaelic Football
Gaelic football ( ga, Peil Ghaelach; short name '), commonly known as simply Gaelic, GAA or Football is an Irish team sport. It is played between two teams of 15 players on a rectangular grass pitch. The objective of the sport is to score by kicking or punching the ball into the other team's goals (3 points) or between two upright posts above the goals and over a crossbar above the ground (1 point). Players advance the football up the field with a combination of carrying, bouncing, kicking, hand-passing, and soloing (dropping the ball and then toe-kicking the ball upward into the hands). In the game, two types of scores are possible: points and goals. A point is awarded for kicking or hand-passing the ball over the crossbar , signalled by the umpire raising a white flag. A goal is awarded for kicking the ball under the crossbar into the net (the ball cannot be hand-passed into the goal), signalled by the umpire raising a green flag. In Gaelic games, a manager or (in Irish) ''bainisteoir'' is involved in the direction and instruction of the on-field operations of a team. The role entails the application of sport tactics and strategies during the game itself, and usually entails substitution of players and other such actions as needed. In some team sports, a selector is a member of a selection panel which chooses teams or individuals to represent a country or club or other representative team in sporting competitions. For example, a selector in cricket is an administrative position involved in choosing players to represent a particular team in a match. Pete McGrath
Pete McGrath (born 6 June 1953) is an Irish Gaelic football manager and former manager of the Down senior football team. Professional career McGrath was employed for many years as a physical education teacher at St Colman's College, Newry. He retired from this position in 2006. Management career In 1987 McGrath was in charge of the Down team that won the All-Ireland Minor Football Championship. He managed the Down senior team between 1989 and 2002, and was at the helm when Down won the Ulster and All Ireland Senior Championships in 1991 and 1994. He managed the Ireland team in the International Rules Series in 2004 and 2005. McGrath managed the Down under 21 team to the All Ireland final in 2009, before stepping down in October 2009. McGrath has had spells in club management with Cooley Kickhams, An Riocht, and Bryansford. The Leinster Minor Football Championship is the premier under-17 "knockout" competition in gaelic football played in the province of Leinster. 2017 was the final year of the minor under 18 football championship as it were replaced by an under 17 championship following a vote at the GAA congress on 26 February 2016. The current Leinster champions are Meath. The Leinster minor football championship is known as Fr. Larry Murray Trophy. The Cup is named after Fr. Larry Murray who was an underage GAA mentor in both Louth and Armagh, hence the Ulster Minor Football Championship is also named after Fr. Larry Murray.
