Wayne Hovey
Wayne Hovey (born 13 July 1956) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for Geelong in the Victorian Football League (now known as the Australian Football League). He is the son of Jim Hovey, who played for Geelong in the 1940s. His uncles, Ced and Ron Ron is a shortening of the name Ronald. Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. Australian Football League
The Australian Football League (AFL) is the only fully professional competition of Australian rules football. Through the AFL Commission, the AFL also serves as the sport's governing body and is responsible for controlling the laws of the game. Originally known as the Victorian Football League (VFL), it was founded in 1896 as a breakaway competition from the Victorian Football Association (VFA), with its inaugural season commencing the following year. Jim Hovey
James Henry Lawrence Hovey (15 August 1922 – 28 March 1995) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Geelong in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Hovey, a back pocket player, arrived at Geelong from Modewarre and debuted in 1946, when he appeared in every game from round seven. He played 17 games in 1947 and gathered all of his five career Brownlow Medal votes that year, then made a further 11 appearances in 1948. Following his career at Geelong, Hovey coached in country Victoria, first at Wimmera Football League club Murtoa in 1949, before being appointed coach of Mooroopna in 1950. Hovey kicked two goals for Shepparton when they defeated Tatura in the 1951 Goulburn Valley Football League grand final. Hovey won the 1952 Central Goulburn Valley Football League best and fairest award, the Neal Hanlon Trophy, as captain / coach of Tallygaroopna. Ced Hovey
Cedric John Hovey (12 July 1918 – 19 February 2014) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Geelong in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Career Hovey, who came from Modewarre, was runner-up in the Geelong seconds best and fairest award for the 1944 season. Mostly as a centreman, Hovey made 10 appearances with the senior side in the 1945 VFL season, debuting at the age of 26. He didn't play VFL football in 1946 and instead captained the Geelong seconds. In 1947 he was cleared to Geelong West, in the Ballarat Football League. At Geelong West, Hovey was a best and fairest winner and captain-coached the club in 1948. Ron Hovey
Ronald Clive Hovey (25 August 1932 – 6 January 2015) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Geelong in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Career Hovey played in the 1947 Shepparton Boys Football Club's Central Goulburn Valley Football League premiership team as a 15-year-old before moving to Geelong to play in the Geelong Under-19's side in 1948. Hovey was a regular in the Geelong backline during the 1950s and would sometimes push into the midfield. He was a member of Geelong's 1951 and 1952 premiership teams. Hovey, who finished equal seventh in the 1959 Brownlow Medal, was captain of Geelong in 1960, his final season. Hovey was forced to retire six games into the 1960 VFL season due to an ongoing knee injury. Two of his brothers, Ced and Jim, also played league football for Geelong.
