Wayne Holdsworth
Wayne John Holdsworth (born 5 October 1968 in Paddington, New South Wales) is a former Australian first-class cricketer who played for New South Wales from 1989 to 1996. Cricket career Holdsworth was a right-arm fast bowler who took 188 wickets for New South Wales at 32.13. His best season came in 1992/93 when he took 53 first-class wickets. In this season he became the first player in the history of Sheffield Shield cricket to take seven wickets in an innings in three consecutive matches. The tally included career-best figures of 7/41, which he took in the Sheffield Shield final against Queensland, which NSW won. He was rewarded with a spot in the 1993 Ashes touring squad and although he didn't play a Test he did take a hat-trick against Derbyshire in a warm up match and played a one-day match against Ireland, and took 3 for 13 off 6 overs. The 1990–91 Sheffield Shield season was the 89th season of the Sheffield Shield, the domestic first-class cricket competition of Australia. Victoria won the championship. Table Final The last time the two teams played, New South Wales defeated Victoria. A number of players from both sides were unavailable as they were touring with the Australian side in the West Indies, including Mark and Steve Waugh, Mark Taylor, Mike Whitney, Peter Taylor, Greg Matthews, Merv Hughes and Dean Jones. NSW Premier Cricket (formerly known as Sydney Grade Cricket) is a cricket competition played in Sydney, Australia. The competition began in 1893 when a number of clubs that had been playing for many years on an ad hoc basis voted to create a formal competition structure. The NSW Premier Cricket competition is generally played on Saturdays and begins in mid-September and continues until the grand final is played on the first weekend of April. Spectators are generally few and far between at matches, mostly family members, partners or club members. The exception to this is at T20 matches which can attract crowds into the hundreds and occasionally the low thousands. Players for the NSW team are selected from the first-grade competition. The 1988 McDonald's Bicentennial Youth World Cup was an international cricket tournament played in Australia from 28 February to 13 March 1988. Sponsored by McDonald's, it was the inaugural edition of what is now the Under-19 Cricket World Cup, and formed part of the celebrations for the Australian Bicentenary. The tournament was primarily organised by the Australian Cricket Board (ACB), with only limited oversight from the International Cricket Conference (ICC). Eight teams participated, with the seven Test-playing ICC members joined by a composite team of players from ICC associate members. Australia defeated Pakistan in the final by five wickets, with England and the West Indies being the losing semi-finalists. The Australian cricket team toured England in 1993 aiming to retain The Ashes for a second consecutive occasion, having successfully defended them on home turf in the 1990/91 season. Six Test matches were scheduled, of which Australia won four and England one, with one match drawn. Australia won the Texaco Trophy series that preceded the Tests 3–0. The gulf in quality between the sides was vast, and was emphasised by the fact that nine of Australia's team played all six tests, while England used 24 players in the series, including seven debutants. The One-Day Cup, known as the Marsh One-Day Cup for sponsorship reasons, is an Australian domestic List A 50-over limited-overs cricket tournament. It has had many different names, formats and teams since the inaugural 1969-1970 season. Initially a knockout cup, the competition now features a single round-robin followed by a finals series. The tournament is contested between teams representing the six states of Australia, who also compete in the first-class Sheffield Shield.
