Wayne G. Borah
Wayne G. Borah (April 28, 1891 – February 6, 1966) was a United States circuit judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit and previously was a United States district judge of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana. Education and career Born in Baldwin, Louisiana, Borah received a Bachelor of Laws from the Paul M. Hebert Law Center at Louisiana State University in 1915. He was in private practice in New Orleans, Louisiana from 1915 to 1917. He was a United States Army captain in the infantry during World War I from 1917 to 1919. Afterwards, he returned to his private practice until 1923. He was an Assistant United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Louisiana from 1923 to 1925, and then became the United States Attorney for that district until 1928. Senior Status
Senior status is a form of semi-retirement for United States federal judges. To qualify, a judge in the Federal judiciary of the United States, federal court system must be at least 65 years old, and the sum of the judge's age and years of service as a federal judge must be at least 80 years. As long as senior judges carry at least a 25 percent caseload or meet other criteria for activity, they remain entitled to maintain a staffed office and chambers, including a secretary and their normal complement of law clerks, and they continue to receive annual cost-of-living increases. Senior judges vacate their seats on the bench, and the President of the United States, president may appoint new full-time judges to fill those seats. Some U.S. states have similar systems for senior judges.
