Wayne County, Iowa
Wayne County is a county located in the U.S. state of Iowa. As of the 2020 census, the population was 6,497, making it the sixth-least populous county in Iowa. The county seat is Corydon. History Wayne County was formed in 1846 but was still attached to other counties for governmental purposes. It was named after General Anthony Wayne. Its southern border with Missouri was uncertain until the states got a decision from the US Supreme Court in 1848 which held the 1816 Sullivan line (re-marked in 1850), originally run as the northern boundary of an Osage Indian cession. This line is not a true east–west line so the county does not have an exactly rectangular shape. Wayne County Courthouse (Iowa)
The Wayne County Courthouse is located in Corydon, Iowa, United States. Three buildings have served Wayne County as its courthouse. History The first building was a two-story structure completed in 1856 for $600. Offices were located on the second floor and the courtroom was on the first floor. The citizens of Corydon raised $18,000 to build a new courthouse, and keep it in town. The two-story brick building with a clock tower was completed in 1890. The old courthouse was moved out of town and converted into a farmhouse. The present Modernist Modernism is both a philosophical and arts movement that arose from broad transformations in Western society during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Lineville is a city in Wayne County, Iowa, United States. The population was 195 at the time of the 2020 census. Geography Lineville is located at (40.585289, -93.523177). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of , all land. History Lineville has been called the oldest town in Wayne County, but was not noted on early maps or in the 1850 state line survey, and probably attracted settlers from a nearby short-lived community called Grand River after the state line dispute was settled. Lineville was platted in 1858. Because part of the town is in Missouri and part in Iowa, it was named Lineville. The town square sits on the Iowa–Missouri border with the business on the south side of the square in South Lineville, Missouri. Allerton is a city in Wayne County, Iowa. The population was 430 at the time of the 2020 census. Geography Allerton is located at (40.707108, -93.367263). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of , all land. Allerton reservoir and Bob White State Park are located approximately three miles west of Allerton. Transportation Allerton was served by Iowa Highway 40 until it was turned over to Wayne County and made a county road. There is a network of paved farm to market roads starting in Allerton and connecting with the surrounding towns. Allerton was a division point on the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad until the bankruptcy of the line in 1980.
