Wayne Anderson (politician)
Andrew Wayne Anderson (born 1953) is a Canadian politician who was elected in the 2015 Alberta general election to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta representing the electoral district of Highwood (electoral district), Highwood. Highwood had previously been held by Danielle Smith, the leader of the Wildrose before her defection to the Progressive Conservative Association of Alberta, Progressive Conservatives in December 2014. Smith was defeated for the PC nomination by Okotoks councillor Carrie Fischer, who was defeated in the general election by Anderson. Anderson was defeated in his UCP nomination race in 2018 to RJ Sigurdson. The Progressive Conservative Association of Alberta (often referred to colloquially as Progressive Conservative Party of Alberta) was a provincial centre-right party in the Canadian province of Alberta that existed from 1905 to 2020. The party formed the provincial government, without interruption, from 1971 until the party's defeat in the 2015 provincial election under premiers Peter Lougheed, Don Getty, Ralph Klein, Ed Stelmach, Alison Redford, Dave Hancock and Jim Prentice. Ric McIver
Richard William McIver (born August 28, 1958) is a Canadian politician who has represented Calgary-Hays in the Legislative Assembly of Alberta since 2012. A member of the United Conservative Party (UCP), McIver is the current minister of municipal affairs. He entered politics in 2001 when he was elected to the Calgary City Council, serving until 2010. In 2012, he joined the Progressive Conservatives (PCs) and was elected as a member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA). McIver was a cabinet minister from 2013 until the PCs were defeated in the 2015 provincial election. He served as interim PC leader from 2015 to 2017, and returned to cabinet when the new UCP formed government in 2019. Okotoks (, originally ) is a town in the Calgary Region of Alberta, Canada. It is on the Sheep River, approximately south of Calgary. Okotoks has emerged as a bedroom community of Calgary. According to the 2016 Census, the town has a population of 28,881, making it the largest town in Alberta. History The town's name is derived from ''"ohkotok"'', the Blackfoot First Nation word for "rock". The 2015 Alberta general election was held on May 5, 2015, following a request of Premier Jim Prentice to the Lieutenant Governor of Alberta Donald Ethell to dissolve the Legislative Assembly on April 7, 2015. This election elected members to the 29th Alberta Legislature. It was only the fourth time in provincial history that saw a change of government, and was the last provincial election for both the Alberta Progressive Conservative and Wildrose Parties, which would merge in 2017 to form the United Conservative Party (although each would run a token candidate in the 2019 election). The provincial Election Act fixed the election date to a three-month period between March 1 and May 31 in the fourth calendar year after the preceding election day – in this case, April 23, 2012. Wildrose Party
The Wildrose Party (legally Wildrose Political Association, formerly the ''Wildrose Alliance Political Association'') was a conservative provincial political party in Alberta, Canada. The party was formed by the merger in early 2008 of the Alberta Alliance Party and the unregistered Wildrose Party of Alberta. The wild rose is Alberta's provincial flower. It contested the 2008 provincial election under the Wildrose Alliance banner, and was able to capture seven percent of the popular vote but failed to hold its single seat in the Legislative Assembly.
