Waverley Hockey Club
Waverley Hockey Club is located in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne, and competes in Hockey Victoria field hockey competitions. Waverley is one of Australia's largest hockey clubs, with 800+ members in male and female, junior, senior and masters competitions. Waverley caters for players of all ages and skill level from social to elite level. Junior programs commence at 7 years and junior teams play in competition from Under 10 to Under 16. Waverley has Men's and Women's Premier League teams playing in one of the strongest competitions in Australia. The Victorian Vipers are a field hockey team who participate in Australia's national field hockey league, the AHL. The team is predominantly made up of amateurs who participate in the Victorian Premier League competition. The team's home stadium is the Victorian State Netball and Hockey Centre. Indoor hockey is an indoor variant of field hockey. It is similar to the outdoor game in that two teams compete to move a hard ball into the goal of the opposing side using hockey sticks. Indoor hockey is played on a smaller area and between smaller teams than field hockey and the sidelines are replaced by solid barriers from which the ball rebounds and remains in play. The Men's FIH Hockey World Cup is an international field hockey competition organised by the International Hockey Federation (FIH). The tournament was started in 1971. It is held every four years, bridging the four years between the Summer Olympics. Pakistan is the most successful team, having won the tournament four times. The Netherlands and Australia have each won three titles, and Germany has won two titles. Belgium and India have both won the tournament once. The 2018 tournament was held in Bhubaneswar, India from 28 November to 16 December. The Sultan Azlan Shah Cup is an annual invitational international men's field hockey tournament held in Malaysia. It began in 1983 as a biennial contest. The tournament became an annual event after 1998, following its growth and popularity. The Hockey Champions Trophy (HCT) was an international field hockey tournament held by the International Hockey Federation (FIH). History Founded in 1978 by Pakistan's Air Marshal Nur Khan and the Pakistan Hockey Federation, it featured the world's top-ranked field hockey teams competing in a round robin format. Luke Doerner is an Australian field hockey player. He plays for the Tassie Tigers in the Australian Hockey League. He is a member of the Australia men's national field hockey team, and won a gold medal at the 2010 Commonwealth Games. He is trying to secure a spot on the national team in order to represent Australia at the 2012 Summer Olympics. He represents the Uttar Pradesh Wizards in the Hockey India League.
