Waverley, Rotherham
Waverley is a civil parish in the Metropolitan Borough of Rotherham in the southeastern part of the county of South Yorkshire, England. It is situated about north of London, from Rotherham town centre and from Sheffield City Centre. The parish was formed on 1 April 2019 from parts of the parishes of Catcliffe and Orgreave, South Yorkshire, Orgreave. The Advanced Manufacturing Park has been developed in the area of the later parish since the 2000s, partly on land reclaimed from a former opencast coal mine. Transportation A railway station is proposed on the Sheffield–Lincoln line which is adjacent to the parish. In 2020, the government announced that it would provide funding for a feasibility study, as part of the Restoring Your Railway scheme. Metropolitan Borough Of Rotherham
The Metropolitan Borough of Rotherham is a metropolitan borough of South Yorkshire, England. It is named after its largest town, Rotherham, but also spans the outlying towns of Maltby, Swinton, Wath-upon-Dearne, Dinnington and also the villages of Rawmarsh and Laughton. A large valley also spans the entire borough. Locally known as the Rother Valley. Orgreave, South Yorkshire
Orgreave is a village and civil parish on the River Rother in South Yorkshire. It is in the Metropolitan Borough of Rotherham, about east of the centre of Sheffield and a similar distance south of the centre of Rotherham. The 2011 Census recorded its population as 739. This is a slight decline since the 2001 Census, which recorded its population as 761. History Coal and coke Two halls stood at Orgreave, Orgreave Hall, built in 1684 was occupied by John Sorsby of John Sorby & Sons. Rotherwood Hall was later occupied by his son Richard Sorsby (1806-1862), coal producer. The halls were demolished in the 1990s. Coal mining in the area began with Dore House Colliery in 1820. The first shaft of Orgreave Colliery was sunk in 1851. In the 20th century the Orgreave Coking Plant was established, and the colliery began to supply the plant. Sheffield Interchange
Sheffield Interchange is the main bus station in central Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England. The facility is served by buses operating across the Sheffield region, as well as National Express coaches that connect Sheffield with destinations across the United Kingdom. The Interchange is located on the eastern side of Sheffield City Centre on Pond Street. The majority of bus stands at the Interchange are inside the dedicated Interchange building, although there are five additional bus stands located at the roadside on Flat Street opposite the Interchange building. At the northern end of Flat Street is Fitzalan Square tram stop, which serves all four Sheffield Supertram routes. Rotherham Interchange
Rotherham Interchange is a bus station serving the town of Rotherham, South Yorkshire. It consists of 24 bus stands located inside the main Interchange building in Rotherham town centre, next to the College Walk shopping centre which leads out onto Frederick Street. It is the main hub for bus services in the Rotherham area, and is located a short walk over the Chantry Bridge over the River Don from Rotherham Central station on the National Rail and Sheffield Supertram networks. On 15 May 2016 the Interchange suffered major damage after a Stagecoach bus caught fire inside the building in a suspected arson attack. The bus station was closed for several days before reopening after temporary repairs were made. First South Yorkshire is a major bus operator providing bus services within and across South Yorkshire. It is a subsidiary of FirstGroup. History In 1989, South Yorkshire Transport introduced the ''Mainline'' brand on certain bus routes around South Yorkshire. Buses operated with ''Sheffield Mainline'' names in a bright red and yellow livery, replacing the previous "coffee and cream" livery. It was followed by ''Doncaster Mainline'' in a silver grey and red livery relieved by a light yellow band and finally ''Rotherham Mainline'', whose buses were painted blue and yellow. Sheffield–Lincoln Line
The Sheffield–Lincoln line is a railway line in England. It runs from Sheffield to Lincoln via Worksop, Retford and Gainsborough Lea Road. The route comprises the main line of the former Manchester, Sheffield and Lincolnshire Railway (MS&LR), to Gainsborough Trent Junction, where it then follows the former Great Northern and Great Eastern Joint Railway (GNGEJR) to Lincoln Central. The former MS&LR main line continues from Trent Junction to Wrawby Junction, Barnetby, much of it now single line, where it then runs to Cleethorpes. The Advanced Manufacturing Park (AMP) is a manufacturing technology park in Waverley, Rotherham, South Yorkshire, England. It was partly funded by the European Regional Development Fund, and developed by thHarworth Group previously the property development wing of UK Coal, on reclaimed opencast coal mine land close to the site of the battle of Orgreave. Catcliffe
Catcliffe is a village and civil parish on the north-west bank of the River Rother in South Yorkshire, England. The population of the civil parish at the 2011 census was 2,108. It is in the Metropolitan Borough of Rotherham, approximately south of the town of Rotherham and east of Sheffield City Centre. History Catcliffe is mentioned in the ''Domesday book'', its name is presumed to mean either ''the cliff where the cats live'', or ''steep river bank''. In 1740 William Fenney established a glassworks here. The site was chosen, among other reasons, for being away from Fenney's glassworks in Bolsterstone, formerly owned by his mother-in-law—the terms of her will prevented him from setting up a glassworks within 10 miles of the town. Rotherham
Rotherham () is a large minster and market town in South Yorkshire, England. The town takes its name from the River Rother which then merges with the River Don. The River Don then flows through the town centre. It is the main settlement of the Metropolitan Borough of Rotherham.
