Waupun is a town in Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 1,385 at the 2000 census. The town abuts the city of Waupun. The unincorporated community of Ladoga is also located partially in the town. Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 35.0 square miles (90.6 km), all land. Demographics At the 2000 census there were 1,385 people, 472 households, and 407 families living in the town. The population density was 39.6 people per square mile (15.3/km). There were 495 housing units at an average density of 14.2/sq mi (5.5/km). The racial makeup of the town was 98.19% White, 0.22% African American, 0.22% Asian, 1.01% from other races, and 0.36% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.08%. Fond du Lac County is a county in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. As of the 2020 census, the population was 104,154. Its county seat is Fond du Lac. The county was created in the Wisconsin Territory in 1836 and later organized in 1844. Fond du Lac is French for "bottom of the lake", so given because of the county's location at the southern shore of Lake Winnebago. Waupun is a city in Dodge and Fond du Lac counties in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. The population was 11,344 at the 2020 census. Of this, 7,795 were in Dodge County, and 3,549 were in Fond du Lac County. In Fond du Lac County, the Town of Waupun abuts the city of Waupun. History Founding Waupun was founded in 1839 by Seymour Wilcox, the first settler along the Rock River in what was then deciduous forested land. Wolcott Turner Brooks
Wolcott Turner Brooks (October 6, 1826 – April 26, 1901) was a member of the Wisconsin State Assembly. Biography Brooks was born on October 6, 1826, in New Haven, Vermont. He was a relative of the Michigan Supreme Court Justice Josiah Turner, and the Vermont House of Representatives member and Vermont Supreme Court Justice Bates Turner. Eventually, he moved to Fond du Lac County, then in the Wisconsin Territory. On May 31, 1853, Brooks married Gertrude Sanderson. They had two children. Brooks and his wife briefly lived in Fond du Lac town, before moving to Byron, Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin.
