Waukesha ( ) is the county seat of Waukesha County, Wisconsin, United States. It is part of the Milwaukee metropolitan area. Its population was 71,158 at the 2020 census. The city is adjacent to the Village of Waukesha. History The area that Waukesha now encompasses was first settled by European-Americans in 1834, with Morris D. Cutler as its first settler. When the first settlers arrived, there was nothing but dense virgin forest and wild prairie. The settlers laid out farms, constructed roads, erected government buildings and established post routes. The original founders of Waukesha consisted entirely of settlers from New England, particularly Connecticut, rural Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine, as well some from upstate New York who were born to parents who had migrated to that region from New England shortly after the American Revolution. Waukesha School District
The Waukesha School District is a school district that serves the city of Waukesha and parts of the Village of Waukesha, Town of Brookfield, city of Brookfield, and city of Pewaukee in Waukesha County, Wisconsin. The district serves over 14,000 students and administers three high schools, three middle schools, 15 elementary schools, and four charter schools. It is governed by a board of nine members. History In 2019, Blair Elementary School was closed out and Butler Middle School is now divided into two separate campuses, Butler Campus and Blair Campus. Both campuses run on different schedules. Waukesha North High School
Waukesha North High School is one of three high schools located in Waukesha, Wisconsin. Operated by the Waukesha School District, the school opened in mid-year, at the start of the second semester, during the 1974-1975 school year. The school is part of the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association and the Classic 8 Conference in athletics. North's nickname is the "Northstars" and the school mascot is the polar bear, "Sparky" The school has a rotating schedule and advisory program. Its marching band won the WSMA state marching band championship every year from 2007 to 2015. Extracurricular activities Waukesha North is a contributor to Invisible Children, Inc., and has raised money for Layibi Secondary School, in northern Uganda. Waukesha South High School is one of three high schools located in Waukesha, Wisconsin. It was opened in 1957 as a southern campus to Waukesha High School, then in downtown Waukesha. The downtown campus is now Les Paul Middle School - Central Campus. History Waukesha South High School Shooting On December 2, 2019, a school shooting took place in which a student armed with a pellet gun was wounded by a police officer. Heavy Police Presence at Waukesha South On December 2–3, 2021, almost two weeks after the Waukesha Christmas Parade Tragedy, there was a heavy police presence at Waukesha South due to physical altercations between students.
