Watershed (Opeth Album)
''Watershed'' is the ninth studio album by Swedish progressive metal band Opeth. Released by Roadrunner Records, ''Watershed'' is the first studio album by Opeth to feature guitarist Fredrik Åkesson and drummer Martin Axenrot, who replaced longtime guitarist Peter Lindgren and drummer Martin Lopez. The artwork for the album was made by Travis Smith (who has created the artwork for eight previous Opeth releases) in collaboration with Mikael Åkerfeldt. It was the band's last studio album to contain death growls or any death metal elements until 2024's '' The Last Will and Testament''. Overview On opening track "Coil", Mikael Åkerfeldt duets with Nathalie Lorichs, who was dating drummer Martin Axenrot at the time. Opeth
Opeth is a Swedish progressive metal/rock band from Stockholm, formed in 1990 by lead vocalist David Isberg. The group has been through several personnel changes, including the replacement of every original member; notably Isberg in 1992. Mikael Åkerfeldt has been Opeth's frontman and primary songwriter since Isberg's departure. Opeth has consistently incorporated progressive, folk, blues, classical, and jazz influences into its usually lengthy compositions, as well as strong influences from death metal, especially in their early works. Many songs include acoustic guitar passages and strong dynamic shifts, as well as death growls. Opeth is also well known for their incorporation of Mellotrons in their work. The band rarely made live appearances supporting their first four albums, but since conducting their first world tour after the 2001 release of ''Blackwater Park'', they have led several major world tours. The Last Will And Testament
''The Last Will and Testament'' is the upcoming fourteenth studio album by Swedish progressive metal band Opeth, set to be released on 22 November 2024 through Reigning Phoenix Music. It will be the band's first studio album since ''In Cauda Venenum'' (2019), marking the longest gap between studio albums in their career, and its first release with drummer Waltteri Väyrynen, who in 2022 officially replaced Martin Axenrot after his departure the year before. It also marks the return of death metal elements such as death growls since ''Watershed'' (2008), as well as being their first fully conceptual album since ''Still Life'' (1999). It was founded in 1986 by broadcast journalists Mark Ellen and David Hepworth, who were presenters of the BBC television music series ''The Old Grey Whistle Test''.
