Waterford Tower
Waterford Tower is a 19-story high-rise building in Downtown Columbus, Ohio. The building was constructed in 1988, near the historical site of the junction of the Columbus Feeder Canal and Scioto River. The city's mayor at the time, Buck Rinehart, considered the project the "boldest" housing development ever built in Downtown Columbus, and that it would help the rebirth of the city's center. The work was one of the first projects in the downtown housing market after years without development, and the first high-rise, high-density residential building built downtown in 15 years. The building is considered a luxury condominium building, although units range significantly in price. In 2006, the most expensive cost around $1 million, while the least expensive were $90,000. Unlike the many offices and warehouse buildings converted for residential use, Waterford Tower was built for residential use, allowing for more amenities. Buck Rinehart
Dana Gillman "Buck" Rinehart (February 24, 1946 – February 18, 2015) was an American attorney who served as the 50th mayor of Columbus, Ohio, from 1984 to 1992. Biography Rinehart was born in Parkersburg, West Virginia in 1946. Having served in the United States Marine Corps Reserve, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel, Rinehart attended The Ohio State University in Columbus, earning a B.A. in Political Science. He later attended Moritz College of Law at The Ohio State University, graduating cum laude. Rinehart began his career as treasurer of Franklin County, Ohio, from 1976-1984. As County Treasurer, he posted a sign at the county building listing the names of real-estate tax scofflaws, the "Dirty Dozen". After mounting a failed 1982 campaign for governor, Rinehart ran for mayor in 1983, to replace outgoing Republican mayor, Tom Moody (1972–1984). John W. Galbreath Bicentennial Park is a park in downtown Columbus, Ohio, United States, located at 233 Civic Center Drive. The park features a fountain, a park restaurant and a performance pavilion. Bicentennial Park was established in 1976, on the United States' 200th anniversary. It was dedicated to John W. Galbreath, an Ohio philanthropist, builder, Kentucky Derby breeder and owner of the Pittsburgh Pirates from 1945-1985. The SS ''Normandie'' was a French ocean liner built in Saint-Nazaire, France, for the French Line ''Compagnie Générale Transatlantique'' (CGT). She entered service in 1935 as the largest and fastest passenger ship afloat, transatlantic crossing, crossing the Atlantic in a record 4.14 days, and remains the most powerful steam Turbo-electric transmission, turbo-electric-propelled passenger ship ever built.
