Waterbug Records is a small independent record label based in Glen Ellyn, Illinois specializing in singer-songwriters and traditional folk musicians who do original research. Independent Record Label
An independent record label (or indie label) is a record label that operates without the funding or distribution of major record labels; they are a type of small- to medium-sized enterprise, or SME. The labels and artists are often represented by trade associations in their country or region, which in turn are represented by the international trade body, the Worldwide Independent Network (WIN). Many of the labels started as producers and distributors of specific genres of music, such as jazz music, or represent something new and non-mainstream, such as Elvis Presley in the early days. Indies release rock, soul, R&B, jazz, blues, gospel, reggae, hip hop, and world music. Jenn Lindsay
Jenn Lindsay (born October 18, 1978, in Amarillo, Texas) is an American social scientist, adjunct professor of Sociology and Communications, documentary filmmaker, video journalist and singer-songwriter currently based in Rome, Italy. Her work focuses on the exploration of social diversity, community building, personal transformation, and social change movements. Dorothy Snowden "Dar" Williams (born April 19, 1967) is an American pop folk singer-songwriter from Mount Kisco, New York. Hendrik Hertzberg of ''The New Yorker'' has described Williams as "one of America's very best singer-songwriters." Sloan Wainwright (born 1957) is an American artist and member of the American independent music scene. Arthur Thieme (July 9, 1941 – May 26, 2015) was an American folk musician. He specialized in traditional songs and stories from the Upper Midwest, though he collected and performed cowboy songs from the West as well. He was assistant manager of the Old Town Folklore Center in Chicago - 1964-1965 & 1966 (retail outlet for the Old Town School of Folk Music), ran The Folk Art Shop in Depoe Bay, Oregon with his wife Carol in 1967 and 1968, sang all over the country for many years -including 37 years singing at the No Exit Cafe & Gallery in Chicago. Sons Of The Never Wrong
The Sons of the Never Wrong is a Chicago-based singer/songwriter folk music trio founded in 1992. Current band members are Bruce Roper, Deborah Maris Lader (since 1998), and Sue Demel. History After a chance meeting at a Guitar Center in Chicago, Illinois, Roper invited Nancy Walker to come hear him sing at a local Monday night sing-around at a nightclub, Beat Kitchen. Roper had recently moved to Chicago from Normal, Illinois, where he had run a retail guitar store. At that time, Walker was singing with a friend, Sue Demel, whom she had met through an ad for band members in the '' Chicago Reader''. Devon Sproule (born 23 April 1982) is a folk and indie rock singer-songwriter and musician based in Charlottesville, Virginia. She shared the ASCAP Foundation Sammy Cahn Award for 2009 with Oren Lavie. She is married to fellow musician, and music producer, Paul Curreri. Cosy Sheridan
Cosy Sheridan (born December 11, 1964, in Concord, New Hampshire) is an American folk singer/songwriter. She first caught the attention of national folk audiences in 1992 when she won the songwriting contests at both the Kerrville Folk Festival and the Telluride Bluegrass Festival. Sheridan graduated from Phillips Exeter Academy. Sheridan lives in Moab, Utah. Danny Schmidt
Danny Schmidt (born October 7, 1970) is an American singer-songwriter based in Austin, Texas, where he now lives with his wife, fellow musician and singer-songwriter Carrie Elkin. Biography Schmidt was born in 1970 and grew up in Austin, Texas. He started playing guitar at the age of 12. At age 20, he discovered that he liked the blues after tracking the music of Jimi Hendrix back through Muddy Waters, Mississippi John Hurt, and Lightning Hopkins all the way to old country gospel and spirituals. Shinobu Sato (born June 5, 1955), is a Japanese classical artist. Shinobu debuted in 1988 with the tape '' Red Dragonfly: World Music on Guitar'', which was released on audio CD in 1992.
