Water Polo At The 2012 Summer Olympics – Women's Tournament
The women's water polo tournament at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London was held from 30 July to 9 August at the Water Polo Arena. Teams from eight nations competed in the tournament and have been seeded into two groups for the preliminary round. A total of 24 games were played, 12 of them in the preliminary round. Format The tournament featured eight teams, separated into two groups of four teams. Each team played the other three teams in its pool once in a round-robin format. All eight teams advanced to the quarterfinal stage where they were seeded and played against a team from the other group. The winners of the quarterfinal games moved on to the semifinals, while the quarterfinal losers played a series of classification games. The semifinal winners played in the gold medal game, while the losers played each other for the bronze. Preliminary round All times are BST (UTC+1). Lauren Wenger
Lauren Ashley Wenger (born March 11, 1984, in Long Beach, California) is an American water polo player for the University of Southern California, who received the 2006 Peter J. Cutino Award as the best collegiate water polo player among Division I NCAA teams. Her position is two-meter defender. Wenger was All-American at Wilson Classical High School in Long Beach, California, and earned a scholar-athlete award all four years. In 2002, she played on the US National Team that won the Pan-American Championship. From 2003 to 2006 she attended USC, where in her senior year she led her Trojans team in steals and assists, becoming no. 8 all-time scorer with 127 career goals. Elizabeth Anne "Betsey" Armstrong (born January 31, 1983) is an American water polo Goalkeeper (water polo), goalkeeper, who won gold medals with the United States women's national water polo team at the 2012 Summer Olympics, 2007 and 2011 Pan American Games, and 2007 and 2009 world championships. Rowena Evelyn Webster (born 27 December 1987), known as Rowie Webster, is an Australian water polo centre back and a three-time Olympian. She is one of three Australian players to play more than 300 international games for Australia.
