''Family First'' (french: Chien de garde, lit=Watch Dog) is a 2018 Canadian crime film directed by Sophie Dupuis. The film premiered at the Rendez-vous du cinéma québécois. It is about a family in Verdun, Montreal, Quebec, including the protagonist JP ( Jean-Simon Leduc), whose uncle Dany (Paul Ahmarani) leads a drug cartel. It was nominated for four Canadian Screen Awards, including Best Motion Picture, winning Best Actor for Théodore Pellerin. Plot In Verdun, Quebec, Dany runs an illegal drug cartel. Sophie Dupuis is a Quebec film director and screenwriter, from Val-d'Or who studied at Concordia University and the Université du Québec à Montréal whose feature film debut ''Family First (film), Family First (Chien de garde)'' premiered in 2018 and was selected as Canada's submission for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film, Best Foreign Language Film at the 91st Academy Awards. The film was nominated for eight Prix Iris at the 20th Quebec Cinema Awards, including a Prix Iris for Best Director, Best Director nomination for Dupuis.
