Wasserschloss Taufkirchen
The Wasserschloss Taufkirchen is a moated castle in Taufkirchen (Vils), Bavaria. History A noble family named Taufkirchen is recorded as living in the town in the 11th century. Gerhard von Taufkirchen is mentioned in documents from 1140. The first mention of the castle and parish in one document dates to 1263, describing a dispute between Bishop Conrad II, Count of Wittelsbach, and Grimold von Taufkirchen over the rights to occupy the Taufkirchen, described as "iuxta castellum eius" (near the castle). Later the Lords of Fraunberg owned the Castle, then from 1554-1672 it was the property of the Fuggers. This family expanded the original building, and added a chapel. The altar has the Fugger coat of arms. The castle then passed to the Barons of Puech, who brought wealth into the town. Following that the castle went through various ups and downs. Michael Wening
Michael Wening (11 July 1645 – 18 April 1718) was a Bavarian engraver who is known for his many depictions of important places in the Bavaria of his day, including cityscapes and views of stately homes, castles and monasteries. The work has great historical value. Early years Michael Wening was born on 11 July 1645 in Nuremberg, Bavaria, son of Balthasar and Katharina Wening. His parents had 13 children, of whom he was the only survivor. His father was a pork butcher and meat inspector. Michael did not follow his father's trade, but became an engraver. In the 1760s he was working for the Nuremberg publishing houses of Fürst and Hoffmann, where he learned to draw cityscapes. Wening left Nuremberg in the spring of 1668, and is first mentioned in Munich in December 1669, where he applied for work at the court as an engraver. The family of the barons von Fraunberg, also known as the Fraunberger, is among the oldest in Bavaria. Their name derives from the village of Fraunberg in the district of Erding. They are documented since 945, when Heinrich von Fraunberger was mentioned in connection with Costnitz am Bodensee. Their main arms are Gules, a pale argent.
