Washinosu Station
was a railway station on the Hakodate Main Line in Yakumo, Futami District, Hokkaido, Japan, operated by Hokkaido Railway Company (JR Hokkaido) until its closure on 25 March 2016. Lines Washinosu Station was served by the Hakodate Main Line, and was numbered "H53". Station layout The station consisted of two staggered side platforms, accessed by a level crossing for passengers. History The station opened on 1 September 1944 as a passing loop on the otherwise single-track line with platforms provided to allow passengers to board and alight. From 1 August 1949, it was officially designated as a "temporary station", but from 30 September 1962, returned to its original designation as a passing loop that also handled passengers. Yakumo, Hokkaido
is a town in Oshima Subprefecture, Hokkaido, Japan. As of September 2016, the town's population was estimated as 17,299, with a density of 18 persons per km2. The total area is 955.98 km2. On October 1, 2005, the town of Kumaishi was merged into Yakumo; now in the newly created Futami District. The former town of Kumaishi joined Oshima Subprefecture at the same time. Geography Yakumo is the only municipality which faces both the Sea of Japan and the Pacific Ocean. The Yakumo area and the Kumaishi area are separated by mountains. Hakodate Main Line
The is a railway line connecting the cities of Hakodate and Asahikawa via Sapporo in Hokkaido, Japan. It is one of the trunk lines operated by the Hokkaido Railway Company (JR Hokkaido). The Sawara Line, a 35 km loop line from Ōnuma to Mori opened in 1945, is included as part of the Hakodate Main Line. The Sapporo—Minami-Otaru section was the first railway line opened in Hokkaido (including the Minami-Otaru - Temiya Line to the Otaru Port). The line was extended as the first to connect to Hakodate, though today all Sapporo—Hakodate direct passenger and freight services travel via the Chitose and Muroran lines until rejoining the Hakodate line at Oshamambe Station. A side platform (also known as a marginal platform or a single-face platform) is a platform positioned to the side of one or more railway tracks or guideways at a railway station, tram stop, or transitway. A station having dual side platforms, one for each direction of travel, is the basic design used for double-track railway lines (as opposed to, for instance, the island platform where a single platform lies between the tracks).
