Washington Township is one of eleven townships in Monroe County, Indiana, United States. As of the 2010 census, its population was 2,029 and it contained 882 housing units. The township contains a portion of the Morgan-Monroe State Forest. History Washington Township was established in 1829. It was named for George Washington, the first President of the United States. Hindustan is an unincorporated community in Washington Township, Monroe County, in the U.S. state of Indiana. History Hindustan was platted on August 18, 1853, by Charles G. Carr. Benton Township is one of eleven townships in Monroe County, Indiana, United States. As of the 2010 census, its population was 3,358 and it contained 1,716 housing units. History Benton Township was established in 1833. It was named for Thomas Hart Benton, a U.S. Senator from Missouri. Benton township was divided into Marion township to the north and Benton township to the south in August 1845. The current township was formed in January 1916 when Marion township and Benton township merged back together to form a single township. State Road 37 (SR 37) is a major route in the U.S. state of Indiana, running as a four-lane divided highway for 110 miles of its course. At one time, the route ran from the southwest corner of the state to the northeast corner. In the pre-Interstate Highway era, Indiana 37 was the most direct route between Fort Wayne and Indianapolis. Interstate 69 In Indiana
Interstate 69 (I-69) currently has two discontinuous segments of freeway in the US state of Indiana. The original highway, completed in November 1971, runs northeasterly from the state capital of Indianapolis, to the city of Fort Wayne, and then proceeds north to the state of Michigan (reaching its capital city, Lansing and beyond). This original segment is also known as segment of independent utility 1 (SIU 1) in the national plan for expansion of I-69.
