Washington Township is a civil township of Gratiot County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 909 at the 2000 census. Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of , of which is land and (0.08%) is water. The township contains portions of the Maple River State Game Area. Demographics As of the census of 2000, there were 909 people, 335 households, and 268 families residing in the township. The population density was 25.6 per square mile (9.9/km). There were 352 housing units at an average density of 9.9 per square mile (3.8/km). The racial makeup of the township was 98.13% White, 0.11% African American, 0.33% Native American, 0.22% Pacific Islander, 0.66% from other races, and 0.55% from two or more races. Washington Charter Township, located within Metro Detroit, is a charter township of Macomb County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 25,139 at the 2010 census. Washington Township is bordered by the village of Romeo as well as Ray Township, Shelby Township, and Oakland Township in Oakland County and is 18 miles north of Detroit. Washington Township is a civil township of Sanilac County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 1,636 at the 2000 census. Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of , all land. History Among previously existing settlements in Washington Township is Pack's Mills. This small community on the Black River was named after George Pack, Jr. (brother of John Pack), the owner of the sawmill that gave the town its name. George Pack, Jr. became the postmaster of Pack's Mills in 1868. The post office ceased operations in February 1876. Today, Packs Mills Road runs through the area.
