Vista Unified School District is a public school district headquartered in Vista, California, United States. It serves sections of northern San Diego County. The Vista Unified School District is the 4th largest school district in San Diego County and includes 32 schools with diverse educational programs for kindergarten through adult education students. VUSD has 17 elementary schools, three magnet schools, four middle schools, three comprehensive high schools, three alternative high schools, two special education schools and one adult school. VUSD serves more than 23,000 students and 2,000 adult education students in Vista, as well as sections of Oceanside, San Marcos, Carlsbad and some unincorporated areas of the County. Vista (; Spanish for "view") is a city in San Diego County, California. Vista is a medium-sized city within the San Diego-Carlsbad, CA Metropolitan Area and has a population of 101,638. Guajome Park Academy (commonly referred to as Guajome or GPA) is a K–12 public charter school in Vista, California, United States that was established in 1994. It offers the IB Diploma Programme for eleventh- and twelfth-graders. During the 2004-2005 school year, 1,238 students were enrolled: 530 in the middle school and 708 in the high school. The school is named after nearby Guajome County Park. The name "Guajome" comes from the Luiseño Indian word ''wakhavumi'' meaning "frog pond". In the Luiseño story of creation, Wahawut was one of the "First People" who took on the appearance of a frog to cast a spell over the god Oiyot; consequently, the school's mascot is a frog.
