''Washed Out'' ( hr, Isprani) is a 1995 Croatian film directed by Zrinko Ogresta. The film was selected as the Croatian entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 68th Academy Awards, but was not accepted as a nominee. Zrinko Ogresta
Zrinko Ogresta (born 5 October 1958) is a Croatian screenwriter and film director, professor of film directing at the Academy of Dramatic Arts in Zagreb and a member of the European Film Academy in Berlin. Praised for their strong visual style, well articulated mise-en-scène and innovative storytelling, his films focus on the anxieties that lurk behind the well cultivated burgeois facade of the characters, using their emotional and psychological fractures to bring to light the complexes that haunt the society in general, while subtly analysing social and political forces behind it. Independent Croatia has submitted films for the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film since 1992. The award is handed out annually by the United States Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to a feature-length motion picture produced outside the United States that contains primarily non-English dialogue. It was not created until the 1956 Academy Awards, in which a competitive Academy Award of Merit, known as the Best Foreign Language Film Award, was introduced for non-English speaking films, and has been given annually since. Since achieving independence from Yugoslavia, Croatia has submitted 30 films for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film , but none have been nominated for an Oscar. Croatia also unsuccessfully tried to submit a film in 1991 while the country was in the process of achieving international recognition. This is a list of submissions to the 68th Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film. The Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film was created in 1956 by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to honour non-English-speaking films produced outside the United States. The award is handed out annually, and is accepted by the winning film's director, although it is considered an award for the submitting country as a whole. Countries are invited by the Academy to submit their best films for competition according to strict rules, with only one film being accepted from each country. For the 68th Academy Awards, forty-one films were submitted in the category Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. The submission deadline was set on November 1, 1995. Tarik Filipović (born 11 March 1972) is a Bosnian-Croatian television presenter and actor. He has appeared in over 800 theatre plays since his debut in 1985. He has also been in many films and TV dramas produced throughout the areas of former Yugoslavia. He presents quiz shows ''Tko želi biti milijunaš?'' Ivo Gregurević (; 7 October 1952 – 1 January 2019) was a Croatian film, theatre and television actor. Throughout over a quarter of a century, Gregurević played rural bullies and arrogant nouveau riche and became one of Croatia's best known and most lauded character actors. Biography Born in the village of Donja Mahala, Ivo was the child of Marko and Jela Gregurević. Mustafa Nadarević (2 May 1943 – 22 November 2020) was a Bosnian and Croatian actor. Widely considered one of the greatest actors from the former Yugoslavia, he starred in over 70 films, including ''The Smell of Quinces'' (1982), ''When Father Was Away on Business'' (1985), '' Reflections'' (1987), ''The Glembays'' (1988), ''Kuduz'' (1989), ''Silent Gunpowder'' (1990), ''The Perfect Circle'' (1997), ''Days and Hours'' (2004), ''Mirage'' (2004) and ''Halima's Path'' (2012). Božidarka Frajt (also spelled Frait; born 11 November 1940) is a Croatian actress. In her six decade long career, she has composed a prolific repertoire in Croatian television, film and theatre, but is best known for her role in cinéma vérité-style 1972 film '' The Living Truth'', which earned her critical praise and a Golden Arena Award for Best Actress. In 2010, Frajt was awarded the Vladimir Nazor Award for lifetime achievement. Early life Božidarka Frajt was born Božidarka Grublješić on 11 November 1940. Born to an ethnic Bosnian Serb family, her exact birthplace is unknown due to the scarce information of her childhood.
