Wasco State Prison
Wasco State Prison-Reception Center (WSP) is a state prison located in Wasco, Kern County, California. The Wasco facility was the first of two reception centers in Kern County. The primary mission is to provide short term housing necessary to process, classify, and evaluate new inmates physically and mentally, to determine their security level, program requirements, and appropriate institutional placement. A 400-bed medium custody facility houses general population inmates to help support and maintain the reception center. A minimum custody facility provides institutional maintenance and landscaping services. As of July 31, 2022, Wasco was incarcerating people at 122.8% of its design capacity, with 3,667 occupants. Wasco (formerly, Dewey and Deweyville) is a city in the San Joaquin Valley, in Kern County, California, United States. 2017 Fresno Shootings
On April 18, 2017, a racially motivated shooting spree occurred in Fresno, California, leaving three white people dead. The gunman, Kori Ali Muhammad, a black supremacist, was convicted of four murders and four attempted murders. Muhammad said he went on his shooting spree because of his hatred for white people and particularly white men. Muhammad fired off 17 shots, shooting and killing three men, shooting at and missing another three men, and shooting at a vehicle with passengers inside. The passengers of the vehicle were unharmed. All of Muhammad's victims were white. Prior to engaging in the shooting spree, Muhammad shot a security guard dead at a Motel 6 on April 13. Brandon Kemar Browner (born August 2, 1984) is a former American football cornerback and convicted felon. In 2005, Browner signed with the Denver Broncos as an undrafted free agent out of Oregon State. John Arthur Getreu (born August 26, 1944) is an American serial killer who was convicted of one murder during 1963 in West Germany and convicted of two more that took place in 1973 and 1974 in the United States. He is currently serving life imprisonment at California Health Care Facility. Crimes Convicted: * In 1964, at the age of 19, in Germany, where he had been living as the son of a sergeant major in the U.S. Army, for the June 8, 1963 rape and killing, when he was 18 years old, of the 15 or 16 year-old daughter of a U.S. Army chaplain likewise stationed.
