Warwick Hornby
Warwick Hornby is an Australian musician, best known for his time as bassist for The Whitlams. Note: n-lineversion was expanded from the 2002 edition. He joined the band together with drummer Terepai Richmond in 1998, and remained with them until 2022. Warwick was born near Manchester, England, and emigrated to South Australia with his family in 1966. Encouraged by his parents to take up guitar at age 11, he studied music for 2 years and formed his first band, 'Virginia Wolfe' with friends from the same area. They played high school shows, local clubs and entered Hoadley's Battle of the Sounds, where they were the youngest entrants. After winning their heat but then being disqualified for being ineligible for that particular heat, they were asked to perform in the final as a non competing opening act at Adelaide Town Hall. The Whitlams
The Whitlams are an Australian indie rock band formed in late 1992. The original line-up was Tim Freedman on keyboards and lead vocals, Andy Lewis on double bass and Stevie Plunder on guitar and lead vocals. Other than mainstay Freedman, the line-up has changed numerous times. From 2001 to 2022, he was joined by Warwick Hornby on bass guitar, Jak Housden on guitar and Terepai Richmond on drums – forming the band's longest-lasting and best-known line-up. Four of their studio albums have reached the ARIA Albums Chart top 20: ''Eternal Nightcap'' (September 1997, No. 14), ''Love This City'' (November 1999, No. 3), ''Torch the Moon'' (July 2002, No. 1) and '' Little Cloud'' (March 2006, No. 4). Encyclopedia Of Australian Rock And Pop
''The Encyclopedia of Australian Rock and Pop'' or ''Rock and Pop'' by Australian music journalist Ian McFarlane is a guide to Australian popular music from the 1950s to the late 1990s. The book has a similar title to the 1978 work by Noel McGrath, ''Australian Encyclopaedia of Rock and Pop'', but is not otherwise related. Publishers, Allen & Unwin described McFarlane's encyclopedia as containing over 870 entries and an "essential reference to the bands and artists who molded the shape of Australian popular music ..in an A-to-Z encyclopedia format complete with biographical and historical details. Each entry also includes listings of original band lineups and subsequent changes, record releases, career highlights, and cross-references with related bands and artists." George Allen & Unwin was a British publishing company formed in 1911 when Sir Stanley Unwin purchased a controlling interest in George Allen & Co. It went on to become one of the leading publishers of the twentieth century and to establish an Australian subsidiary in 1976. St Leonards, New South Wales
St Leonards is a suburb on the lower North Shore of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. St Leonards is located north-west of the Sydney central business district and lies across the local government areas of Municipality of Lane Cove, North Sydney Council and the City of Willoughby. History St Leonards was named after English statesman Viscount Sydney of St Leonards. Originally, St Leonards applied to the whole area from the present suburb of North Sydney to Gore Hill. The township of St Leonards in 1883 is now North Sydney. The oldest railway station on the North Shore line opened in 1890 in St Leonards and originally only ran to Hornsby. Terepai Richmond
Terepai Chalmers Richmond (born 21 February 1971) is an Australian drummer. He joined the Sydney-based rock band The Whitlams in September 1999 and formerly played in acid jazz group Directions in Groove (d.i.g.) (1991–1998, 2008). Biography Terepai Chalmers Richmond was born on 21 February 1971 to a Scottish father and a Cook Island mother who ran a restaurant in Sydney. He started drumming in his parents' Polynesian show band at the age of six, with his sister Jennifer dancing, where he performed several shows every week until finishing school at eighteen. Christine Anu
Christine Anu (born 15 March 1970) is an Australian singer, songwriter and actress. She gained popularity with the cover song release of the Warumpi Band's song " My Island Home". Anu has been nominated for 17 ARIA Awards. Early life Anu was born on 15 March 1970 in Cairns, Queensland, to a Torres Strait Islander mother from Saibai. Anu attended Emmaus College in Rockhampton where she graduated from in 1987 before studying at the National Aboriginal and Islander Skills Development Association in Sydney. Paul Mac
Paul Francis McDermott (born 17 September 1965), who performs as Paul Mac, is an Australian electropop musician, singer-songwriter, producer and music re-mixer. He was classically trained at Sydney Conservatorium of Music. Mac has formed various bands including Smash Mac Mac (1986–88), The Lab (1989–1998), Itch-E and Scratch-E (1991–present), Boo Boo Mace & Nutcase (1996–98), and The Dissociatives (2003–2005). Diana Anaid (born Newcastle, 8 April 1976) is the performance name of Diana Gosper, an Australian alternative rock singer-songwriter. From 1997 to 2003 she used the moniker, Diana ah Naid. Jak Housden
Jak Housden (born John Paul Housden 12 June 1969) is an Australian guitarist, singer, and composer. Best known as a long-standing member of or The Whitlams, he is also a founding member of The Badloves, appearing on all their classic 1990s releases. A revered session guitarist, Jak has performed and recorded with Barry Gibb, Olivia Newton-John, Richard Clapton, Steve Kilbey, Kate Ceberano, Jimmy Barnes, Daryl Braithwaite, and Steve Balbi.
