Warsaw Eagles
The Warsaw Eagles are an American football team in Warsaw, Poland. They play in the Polish Football League. Paul Kusmierz is the owner of the team. History The team was founded in 1999 by a group of NFL enthusiasts consisting of Jędrzej Staszewski, Piotr Gorzkowski, Jan Kowalski, Grzegorz Mikuła, and Tomasz Kozankiewicz, who are considered to be the founders of the Warsaw Eagles club. In 2004 the club purchased professional sports gear for the first time to be able to spar with the very first opponent on the Polish arena - Fireballs Wielkopolska. The first game was played on December 17 of 2004 in Suchy Las near Poznań. In 2006 along with 1. KFA Wielkopolska, Pomorze Seahawks (currently Seahawks Gdynia) and The Crew Wrocław (currently Giants Wrocław), the Eagles debuted in the very first edition of the Polish American Football League and having dominated each game, won the first Championship title. Pomorze Seahawks
The Seahawks Gdynia are an American football team based in Gdynia, Poland. They play in the Liga Futbolu Amerykańskiego. History The team was founded in October 2005 as the Pomorze Seahawks. In 2006 the Seahawks was one of four founders of the Polish American Football League and in the first season made their first appearance in the national championship game, the Polish Bowl, in 2006, but lost the game to the Warsaw Eagles. In 2008 they lost the Polish Bowl again to the Eagles. In 2009 the team makes his first appearance at the EFAF Challenge Cup. First two seasons Seahawks played home games in Sopot, next three played in Gdańsk at the GOKF stadium. Since 2011 PLFA season Sehawks moved to Gdynia, changed name to the Seahawks Gdynia and played at the National Rugby Stadium. Overview On 9 April 2008 the President of Warsaw, Hanna Gronkiewicz-Waltz, obtained from the mayor of Stuttgart Wolfgang Schuster a challenge award – a commemorative plaque awarded to Warsaw as the European Capital of Sport in 2008. The Stadion Narodowy, holds a capacity of 58,500 seat football (soccer) stadium, Warsaw's recently demolished 10th-Anniversary Stadium. The national stadium hosted the opening match, two group matches, a quarter-final, and a semi-final of UEFA Euro 2012, hosted jointly by Poland and Ukraine. 2011 PLFA Season
The 2011 season of the Polish American Football League (PLFA I) was the 6th season played by the major american football league in Poland. It was the first time that the PLFA I consisted of ten teams. The regular season took place between April 2 and June 19, 2011. The Polish champion was determined in the play-off final; the VI SuperFinal PLFA (known as the Polish Bowl VI). The Crew Wrocław (last year runner-up) beat the defending champion Devils Wrocław 27–26. The championship game was broadcast live on Sportklub channel, as a first PLFA game ever. Silesia Miners
The AZS Silesia Rebels are an American football team in Katowice, Silesia, Poland. The Rebels team arose from a merger between the Silesia Miners and the Ruda Śląska Warriors. It is only PLFA team operates as an Academic Sports Association (AZS). History Miners The team was founded in April 2006, and joined to the 2007 PLFA season. Miners won four games and lost two (both to the Warsaw Eagles). Finished second in the division, team was awarded as a wild card to the postseason. In the semifinal road game, Miners beat the Eagles 16-13 and qualify to the Polish Bowl. The Miners lost championship game against The Crew Wrocław 0-18. In the 2008 season, the Miners record was 3-4 and finished sixth in an eight-team PLFA I. During the 2009 PLFA season, Miners lost two games in a regular season (against the Eagles 6-27 and The Crew 0-24). Miners quality to the playoff and won semifinal game against the Eagles 31-26.
