Warren Norwood
Warren Carl Norwood (August 21, 1945 – June 3, 2005) was an American science fiction novelist, teacher, and musician. Norwood was a member of Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America and was the author of 14 science fiction novels, most of them written during the 1980s. When not writing, he was a longtime employee of Craig's Music in Weatherford, Texas. Norwood also taught writing at Weatherford College and Tarrant County College. Military service and citations A veteran of the Vietnam War, Warren received the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, and Army Commendation Medal. Legacy Upon his untimely death, his manuscripts and papers, consisting of 53 boxes of material, were transferred to the University of North Texas Special Collections department in Denton. Death Norwood died of liver disease and kidney failure in Weatherford, Texas on Friday, June 3, 2005 at the age of 59. He was survived by his wife Gigi Gephardt. Weatherford, Texas
Weatherford ( ) is a city and the county seat of Parker County, Texas, United States. In 2020, its population was 30,854. Weatherford is named after Thomas J. Weatherford, a State senator and advocate for Texas’ secession to the Confederate States. History Beginnings In 1854, Methodist Reverend Pleasant Tackett led 15 pioneer families into a land they called " Goshen," which would later become part of Parker County, itself to be created the following year by the efforts of State Representative Isaac Parker and State Senator Thomas Jefferson Weatherford in the Texas State Legislature. Evidence of a prior, failed attempt to colonize the region can be found in the abandoned cabin from 1852-53 located south of modern Weatherford on the J.H. Voorhies farm. The University of North Texas (UNT) is a public research university in Denton, Texas. Denton, Texas
Denton is a city in and the county seat of Denton County, Texas, United States. With a population of 139,869 as of 2020, it is the 27th-most populous city in Texas, the 197th-most populous city in the United States, and the 12th-most populous city in the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex. A Texas land grant led to the formation of Denton County in 1846, and the city was incorporated in 1866. Both were named after pioneer and Texas militia captain John B. Denton. Army Commendation Medal
The Commendation Medal is a mid-level United States military decoration presented for sustained acts of heroism or meritorious service. Each branch of the United States Armed Forces issues its own version of the Commendation Medal, with a fifth version existing for acts of joint military service performed under the Department of Defense. The Commendation Medal was originally only a service ribbon and was first awarded by the U.S. Navy and U.S. Coast Guard in 1943.
