Warren Ellis (musician)
Warren Ellis (born 14 February 1965) is an Australian musician and composer. He is a member of the rock groups Dirty Three and Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. He also performed with the band Grinderman until its disbandment in 2013. He has also composed film scores with long-time friend, collaborator and band-mate Nick Cave. Ellis plays the violin, piano, accordion, bouzouki, guitar, flute, mandolin, mandocello and viola. He has been a member of Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds since 1994. Life and career Ellis was born in Ballarat, Victoria. He has said that he came to music by accident: while playing at the local tip, he found an abandoned piano accordion. He took it to school and his teacher showed him how to play it. He later learned classical violin and flute at school in Ballarat. ''The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford'' is a 2007 American epic revisionist Western film written and directed by Andrew Dominik and starring Brad Pitt as Jesse James. Adapted from Ron Hansen's 1983 novel of the same title, the film dramatizes the relationship between Jesse James and Robert Ford (Casey Affleck), focusing on the events that lead up to the titular killing. Photography started at August 29, 2005 and ended in December 2005. Filming took place near Calgary, Canmore, and Edmonton, Alberta, and Winnipeg, Manitoba. To achieve the visual style he wanted for the movie, Dominik took influences from many sources, including still photographers, images clipped from magazines, stills from ''Days of Heaven'', and even Polaroids. ''The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford'' by Nick Cave and Warren Ellis is the official soundtrack album to the movie of the same name. Cave and Ellis composed all the music. According to the CD liner notes, Cave played piano, celesta and other keyboards, while Ellis played violin, viola, guitar and keyboards. Furthermore, some songs featured percussion, a small string ensemble and other instruments. The album is the second film score collaboration between Cave and Ellis, after their work for the 2005 soundtrack to the film '' The Proposition''. The novella has been widely discussed among literary critics, with differing interpretations being offered. ''The Proposition'' is a soundtrack recorded by Nick Cave in collaboration with Warren Ellis, and was produced for the film '' The Proposition'', released in October 2005. At the 2005 AFI Awards it won Best Original Music Score for Cave and Ellis. At the ARIA Music Awards of 2006 the soundtrack was nominated for ARIA Award for Best Original Soundtrack, Cast or Show Album.ARIA Award previous winners. Music style This album is instrumentally focused, and is a departure from Cave's band-oriented compositions. ''Woyzeck'' () is a stage play written by Georg Büchner. Büchner wrote the play between July and October 1836, yet left it incomplete at his death in February 1837. ''Carnage'' (stylised in all caps) is a 2021 studio album by Australian musicians Nick Cave and Warren Ellis. Longtime collaborators in Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds and Grinderman, ''Carnage'' is their first full-length studio album as a duo, apart from their extensive work in film music. It was recorded during the COVID-19 lockdown. ''Carnage'' was released digitally on 25 February 2021 via Goliath Records.
