Warkworth is a locality in the Singleton Council region of New South Wales, Australia. It had a population of 49 as of the . Warkworth Post Office opened on 1 November 1863 and closed on 30 November 1968. Warkworth Public School opened as Cockfighter's Creek in May 1859, was renamed Warkworth that June, closed in March 1861, reopened in 1869 and closed in February 1997. St Philip's Anglican Church has an active congregation and holds fortnightly services. It has a church cemetery with graves dating from 1854 until the present day. The remains of the former Warkworth General Cemetery adjoin the ongoing Anglican cemetery. It contains an active open-cut coal mine, operated jointly with another mine at Mount Thorley as the Mount Thorley Warkworth operation. Armidale
Armidale is a city in the Northern Tablelands, New South Wales, Australia. Armidale had a population of 24,504 as of June 2018. Estimated resident population, 30 June 2018. It is the administrative centre for the Northern Tablelands region. It is approximately halfway between Sydney and Brisbane at the junction of the New England Highway and Waterfall Way. Geography Armidale is on the banks of Dumaresq Creek, in the Northern Tablelands in the New England region about midway between Sydney and Brisbane at an altitude (980 m AHD) ranging from 970 metres at the valley's floor to 1,110 metres above sea level at the crests of the hills. Upper Hunter is an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of New South Wales. The seat is currently held by Dave Layzell for the National Party after he was elected at a by-election to replace Michael Johnsen. The Division of Hunter is an Australian electoral division in the state of New South Wales. The division was proclaimed in 1900, and was one of the original 65 divisions to be contested at the first federal election. The division was named after Captain John Hunter, the second Governor of New South Wales. It covers rural, regional and suburban areas centered on the Hunter Region, including the towns of Singleton, Muswellbrook and Cessnock. It also extends into parts of Greater Newcastle, covering suburbs such as Cameron Park, Edgeworth, Toronto and Morisset. Hunter is a largely blue-collar electorate. Wambo Homestead
Wambo Homestead is a heritage-listed disused homestead at Warkworth, Singleton Council, New South Wales, Australia. It was built from 1830 to 1906. It was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 2 April 1999. History Aboriginal presence Wambo Homestead is located close to the junction of the traditional boundaries of the Kamilaroi and the Wonaruah peoples. The Kamilaroi extended west to the Namoi and Barwon Rivers, and across the Liverpool Plains. The Wonaruah, who were closely affiliated with the Kamilaroi, occupied the central Hunter Valley area from around Merriwa and the Goulburn River, north to the Paterson. Europeans made contact with both groups when trying to cross the Blue Mountains from Windsor. Archaeological surveys have identified a number of Aboriginal camp sites at the Wambo mine site.
