Allen Wardwell
Allen Wardwell (1873–1953), was an American attorney and banking law expert who was the vice president of the American-Russian Chamber of Commerce in 1929, and a name partner of Davis Polk & Wardwell. Education Wardwell graduated from Yale University in 1895 and was a member of Scroll and Key Society. He also graduated from Harvard Law School. Career Wardwell served as a major in the American Red Cross in Russia. He was a member of the Active Campaign Committee of the American Society for the Control of Cancer when it received an unconditional gift of $100,000 from John D. Rockefeller Jr. for its congress at Lake Mohonk in 1926. Wardwell accompanied W. Averell Harriman in his mission to Moscow in 1941, then headed Russian War Relief Inc. in 1942. Daniel Wardwell (May 28, 1791 – March 27, 1878) was an American lawyer, jurist, and politician who served three terms as a United States House of Representatives, U.S. Representative from New York (state), New York from 1831 to 1837, Biography Born in Bristol, Rhode Island, Wardwell was graduated from Brown University, Providence, Rhode Island, in 1811. Samuel Wardwell (May 16, 1643 – September 22, 1692) was a man accused of witchcraft during the Salem witch trials of 1692. He was executed by hanging on September 22, 1692, along with Alice Parker, Martha Corey, Mary Eastey, Ann Pudeator, Mary Parker, Wilmot Redd, and Margaret Scott. Biography Wardwell was born on May 16, 1643, to Thomas Wardwell and Elizabeth Woodruff in Boston, Massachusetts. His father had been a follower of John Wheelwright and Anne Hutchinson. Wardwell had a son out of wedlock, Thomas Wardwell, with Mercy Playfer ( Bridget Bishop's sister.) Samuel's son later adapted the last name Tailer when the Wardwells were convicted of witchcraft. Samuel's wife, Sarah, controlled a one hundred and eighty-eight-acre estate, which she had inherited from her first husband, Adam Hawkes, upon his death. Fort Morgan (Colorado)
Fort Morgan, first called Camp Tyler and Camp Wardwell, was established in the present-day city of Fort Morgan in Morgan County, Colorado as a U.S. military post in 1864. It operated until 1868. There is a historical marker in a city park in remembrance of its history. History The station and military post, first called Camp Tyler, was established in 1859. It is estimated that the Pike's Peak Gold Rush drew about 100,000 people to Colorado. The South Platte Trail was the safest route. In 1859, a branch of the trail away from the South Platte River was established in the wilderness near the present day city of Fort Morgan during the gold rush to reduce the length of the trip to Denver. Fort Morgan was established in the mid-1860s as a defensive measure against the threat of attack by Native Americans. The military post was also called Camp Wardwell.
